Boo Carter rumors from Basilio

Regular reader, but not a poster to the forum. It’s not Tony’s responsibility for anything in this situation. This is a classic example of shooting the messenger. First, the criticism started out about the story being false. Now that we know there’s validity to the story you’re blaming the reporting on what’s out there. As Tony would say, “he didn’t do it.”

The criticisms of Tony on this form are tiresome, unmerited, and quite frankly sophomoric. Tony has one of the most content rich shows in the nation, when it comes to coverage of a single, specific college sports team. Do you know who loves Tony Basillio and gives him more time than any other radio show? Coach Tony Vitello. Vol baseball legend Chris Burke, is a regular on the program. He has quality guest such as Watson Brown every week, as well as numerous other national media representatives who bring great info. He allows callers some leeway that other shows dont.

Having listened to Tony for 30 years, this is a guy that built a show completely, 100%, from nothing, and developed a grassroots following that has grown into tens of thousands. He’s provided unmatched coverage with post game shows that have run until 5:30 in the morning. He’s recruited VFL Will Heflin to run a post game baseball show.

He relies on ZERO corporate funding to support the show. He’s active in great causes for our community and provides a voice for the common fan.
Whether you like it or not, he absolutely, 100% has sources inside the program, and he comes up with great information time after time. These degrading comments about him say more about the people posting than it does anything about Tony Basillio.

Dont like it? Dont listen, but keep your unfounded criticisms and lies to yourself.
He doesn't get corporate sponsorships because it effects what you can report. He wouldn't be able to be a rumor mill guy if he was sponsored by a big brand because that would require him to send out redactions instead of just moving on when he reports too early or is just incorrect.

He is just a rumor guy with a few contacts at the end of the day. But he is also a mouthpiece: people will feed him info knowing he will report it and influence the fanbase.

I’ve never listened to Tony Basilio and know nothing about him as I live on the other side of the state. I have no knowledge of whether or not he is reliable. With that being said, after reading this comment I have to wonder if Mr. Basilio has a burner volnation account.

BINGO! I've wondered why I've never saw this on volnation. I'm going to take it a step further and say this. At some point you have to look at character off the field. Coach knew, he chose to bring him on the team. We're not talking about one situation here. Coach knew what he was getting and turned his head. The fault is on him and him alone. Students in Knoxville have heard about these problems. What message does it send them?! If your talent is such on the field, we can ignore off field problems. My husband and I both predicted he wouldn't finish in Tennessee. I still believe that to be true.
Coaches know the character of the players, but character can change. There are a lot of positive stories out of college ball every year of players who started to become disciplined and became a much better person due to the structure of the team, accountability, and guidance of coaches.

At some point if somebody doesnt get better and starts to go against the team, then you cut them loose. I am sure right now Heupel is trying to figure out if Boo is salvageable or a liability.

Damn Tony, what a post! Maybe we can take this message board post and do a story on you.

I can see it now.

'Local sports journalist gets outed for lack of professionalism, and fires back with his 30 year bio on a sports message board'.

When the smoke clears, you go back to dumpster diving for more 'sources'

Saban is on record saying he liked the guys who were in his office frequently because he got to know them better.

Whatever is going on, I hope Boo is in somebody's office, getting expectations explained and advice given that can make him money or cost him money depending on his receptivity to the message.

I've no need to hate the kid to think he could be better off not playing college ball and learning wonderful things aren't necessarily going to fall in your lap because God chose to bless you physically.

If Boo wants to be a teammate, great.
If he wants to be on the team and coast, that's Heupel's call if he's worth it.
If he wants to be a distraction and all about me, that's a no from me. There's work to be done.

Yep, and because of his story yesterday, this possible nothingburger is all over social media now. What may have not been a problem, could possibly make everyone's life who is involved in this a little more complicated That's what Tony's 'biggest fan' doesn't get. When you are more concerned about getting yourself over instead of reporting accurate well vetted stories there will be blowback.

Because it didn't happen.

I wonder if he was thinking of the Rhea County-Howard game?

Standing Tony's corner this strongly, and going out of your way to say his name seven times (all advertising is good advertising, eh?), I'm going to take a guess that you are one of the following (in order of decreasing probability):

1 - Tony himself, though portraying yourself as a third party ("having listened to Tony...")
2 - Tony's dad, mom, wife, sister, brother, cousin, aunt or uncle
3 - Tony's producer, associate producer, assistant producer, production manager, or studio technician
4 - Tony's preacher, lawyer, high school teacher, dental hygienist, or neighbor
5 - just a really big fan, who maybe would like to get a job with Tony's team

Heh, just messing with you. I'm all for you defending the man, you're absolutely right he did nothing to deserve the intensity of criticism seen in this thread.

On the other hand, you (and Tony) have to realize that people shoot the messenger mostly out of frustration with the message. It comes with the job. Can't complain about it, if you are (or he is) the one who chose to be a messenger.

Go Vols!
A Basillo groupie? Those are an endangered species. Thought all of them were still on the plane circling with Lovie right now.

He’s basically a low rent Finebaum. A lot of people like him and Sparks make money when there’s internal issues with the program. Also when there’s not issues they just make some up. Tabloid paparazzi media.
We like him because he gives a voice to the common fan, he keeps it real. Tony V really likes him and comes on the show, so that shows me he thinks a lot of Tony B. Also, his post game show is usually a minimum of 4 hours, sometimes longer. I appreciate Tony B and so does many others.
