It's both good and bad.

It's good for parity as there is no more Bama, UGA, and Clemson in the National Title game every season since they can no longer hoard 5 stars for 3 years on their bench.

But it's bad for building lasting attachments to your favorite players.

There were many reports that they gave Nico a raise after the season to keep Nico from going into the portal but then we found out that Nico was never given a raise and he’s still operating under his original contract. I’m just wondering if he’s the only one. Matthews, and Gibson were supposed to get raises too but did they?

Do you have a link to those “reports”? I asked in another thread but I don’t recall which one since there has been so many. Genuinely curious because I don’t ever recall seeing that Nico was promised a raise. If you can post it, I would appreciate it.

I have seen where his camp may have threatened something before the playoff game and nothing was done by either side. No promises from UT as far as I knew. If there had been, it would have been all over this site and other places.

I have yet to see anyone contend that the Instagram screenshots are forgeries and that Boo Carter didn't post them. That's the real issue, not anything OP has said. Add the fact that we know Boo previously wanted more money and flirted with the Portal, with the fact that Nico liked this, it's not unreasonable to be concerned about him posting about "rolling the dice" and "getting the f-k out" on a plane on the night before the Portal window opens.

Pretty sure Matthews and Gibson got something. They’re still here (at the moment). Of course, they weren’t operating from a base of $2.4 million and didn’t pull a no show asking for $4 million. Everybody has their limits as to what they will stomach and evidently Josh had his fill of Nico and company. Personally I never count on anybody these days till they kickoff the first game.

Any quality player is going to have multiple offers for more money. Now the coaches are going to recruit them to the school and then every time the portal opens, recruit them again. Just dump the sport it's over. This is pro football with free agency 3 times per year, no salary cap.

Gibson wasn’t at the Orange and White game. Supposedly, he was sick but who knows.

There's a growing tendency to shoot messengers who aren't "yes men." It comes from the corporate world where you can't afford to piss off the big men by showing them something that doesn't paint a rosy picture and call it "not good."

Everything must either spin positive or neutral, never bad, even if it looks bad. You're not a corporate guy if you can't find at least a neutral spin on anything you present.

Great reviews in terms of being good enough backup vs starter - that's the question that needs to be answered after Nico situation. Heupel probably already has a pretty good idea - we'll see who he brings via portral - that will answer the question.

I don’t think teams are gonna throw a lot of money unless you are at the top of the chain. Like Nico is finding out I expect schools NIL’s market will get more disciplined as time goes. GBO
