Now cmon. There are a lot of weirdos. The parents that bring their very young children are good example. Pregnant women are another. When I went, I was a little put off by some of these folks, but I could deal with it.
The more irritating things are: the intense heat that prevents one from sleeping past 5:30am, the only restrooms are porta-potties, and there is no way to take a real shower. Also, you can't bring your beer into the concert area, but I guess that's just how they make their money.

Oh, I agree. It's not a place for little kids or pregnant women, and there are plenty of "weirdos" around -- they just don't bother me so much. I can't speak for the heat or showers issue, as we took an RV. As for the drink issue, that's pretty much how all major venues profit.
Doozer, or anybody else: details? Who was good? Who was great? How was the venue (I heard they had made some improvements)? What's the craziest thing you saw?

I'm sure an RV would be nice. I had fun, but I don't think I would have wanted to hang around another day. I was seriously getting about four hours of sleep a night and I was starting to get pretty nasty from the heat and lack of showering. Still, compared to a lot of people there, I was squeaky clean.

let me start off by saying that going with a large group of people is not the way to go. don't get me wrong, i enjoyed the company of every single person in the camp, but getting 20 people together and ready is trying to say the least, especially for an impatient person like myself.
traffic was horrendous this year. the past two years i have left in the middle of the night and gotten in and camp set up no latter than 8 AM. not this year. we all met the night before in Cookeville and carpooled in the AM after a gas and Wal-Mart trip.
not sure the highway we came in on, but getting onto Brushy Branch road would have required a left turn. we got into the line at 12 exactly. the cops came by and forced all roo traffic into the turn lane. so we sat there and partied in the road for 3 hours. once we got moving we were forced back on the interstate to an exit about 15 miles south of the venue and then back into traffic for another 6 hours only to end up where we started 6 hours later. we lost two people from the group who went to the bathroom at the gas station so we had to pull off and wait for them. finally, at 9:30 we were in and had camp set up.
THURSDAY NIGHT-
Tea Leaf Green- this was the only show i attended on this night. we were there so late we missed most of the Thursday night acts. these guys are great and bring a lot of energy to the stage. i'd seen them before but they've really come along in the last few years. i give them a 3.75 out 5.
FRIDAY-
Michael Franti & Spearhead- amazing show. he did a few meddlies and a few covers. his band is great and he adds so much to any show. it was the show i was looking forward to the most, having never seen them before. he lived up to my expectations and them exceeded them. 4.5
The Roots- caught the last bit of their set on What Stage. i was expecting to see a little more hip-hop out them and they delivered more jazz. still, they had the croud into it and i think a lot of people thought they put on a great show. 3
Tool-awesome show. not sure which i enjoyed more, the lights or the music, but these guys really put on a monster show. we couldn't get close but i did manage to push my up close for a bit before heading back to the group. Tom Morello came out and guested on a song with them as well. Maynard is an interesting character and was having a good time with the hippies, to a certain extent. 4
no late night for me on Friday. STS9 and SCI don't really do it for me and there was no way to get near the super jam of John Paul Jones, ?love, and Ben Harper. we went back to the campsite and had a little fun instead.
SATURDAY-
Railroad Earth-i wasn't at this show long enough to give them a fair rating, but the were really kicking it for a while. i left after 4 songs for...
Old Crow Medicine Show-these are great and if you're into bluegrass or jug bands then see these guys. they have a great song and having never seen them before, really enjoyed the show. 4
Ben Harper- the songs i caught were good. we didn't really stick around long enough to see enough songs to rate it, but i'd seen him before.
The Police- anybody who spent $200 on this tour for Police tickets should sell them and make the profit. clearly, the band is still very much about Sting. i have heard Stuart Copeland talking about wanting jam more but the show very routine. they played for an hour and fourty five minutes. what a let down. 3
Gov't Mule- guesting by John Paul Jones, Michael Franti, and Bob Weir to name just a few. nuff said. 5
Galactic- awesome awesome show. i only caught an hour as i didn't want to leave Mule. they have a new albumn coming out that is going to be a hip hop type record with MCs like Chali 2na (J5) and Lyrics Born. really looking forward to that. 4
i caught a few songs from Sasha and Digweed on the way back to camp. apparently, they played until 6 AM.
one thing we did this year was go to the Something Else Tent. it was ACed so we decided to get out of the heat for a bit. this place was REALLY cool. it was blacked out and with the exception of a few lights hanging up, you almost couldn't see where you were going. it looked just like an old school jazz hall, complete with tables and servers. not a bad place to spend 45 minutes.
SUNDAY
Wolfmother-saw these guys on other people recomendations and saw enough that i'll probably exame more of their work as the weeks roll on.
North Mississippi All Stars-if you've seen these guys before, you know it's a solid show. if you haven't, next time you get the chance, go. do yourself a favor. 4
The White Stripes- everybody and their mother still at bonnaroo at 7:30 was here. we couldn't get close to the stage so we hung in the back, listened to a couple of songs and took off for the band i had been waiting all weekend to see...
Widespread Panic- what can i say about these guys? i've now seen them 3 times with Jimmy and they get tighter and better every single time. finally after years of Panic shows i got to see Travelin' Light and Chilly Water. i don't go on tour or anything like that, but i've seen them enough that you'd think i would have heard those two song by now. 3.5 hours. the only headliner to use their whole time slot and then some. i love these guys and i already have the show downloaded and listened to.
all in all, it was a great time. if i go next year, i'm going RV or VIP with (at most) 6 people.
