Bold Predictions for the Wichita State Game

I just don't get that you don't think that we won't get to the free throw line like that again. It's not like we go out and shoot threes from jump ball. We do drive the ball. It's up to us to get contact and get fouls. It's up to Maymon and Stokes to finish at the rim and at the free throw line. I think Stokes will be at the line a lot in this game.
Of course. And we always come out aggressive on the road.
UTEP ring a bell?
No do overs in the rest of the OOC schedule. It's one and done.
Hope you're right.

We don't settle for 3's from the open is what I'm saying.

22 3s against UTEP.
I'm hoping we did some learning in that game, but Martin teams on the road in the past don't inspire confidence.
I am hoping that changes this season.

I'm pretty sure we starting jacking up the majority of those threes when we got down big.

Agree. This is also why all the "remember last year talk is just that... talk." IMO Lets prove we can win a BIG one on the road.

Saturdays moto: Max effort on both ends from the tip!

Or Stokes gets in foul trouble. He is really our only big that demands the ball down low. When he isn;t in we don't have the offensive scheme to create buckets. We turn into a clear out one on one style offense.

1. Ernie and Bernie both go scoreless.
2. Kevin Nash gets ejected for power bombing Bob Kesling.
3. Trae Golden returns and is named Defensive Player of the game.
4. Jarnell Stokes shows off his new "Tulip" tattoo.
5. Bruce Pearl gets a technical for removing his shirt and rubbing Bar B Q sauce on his man boobs during pre game warmups.

Chris Lofton flies to Oklahoma City, challenges Kevin Durant to a one on one, and shoots a cross country 3 pointer to TBA to win the game.

Yes, I know the game is @ Wichita State.

You know about this team usually pretty early in the game what you are going to get. Other than the USC Upstate game in which they had to rally (still smh at that one), if UT is on and they've done their homework, you can tell early in the game (see the 2nd Xavier and Wake games). If Martin has to do much in game adjusting then I don't like our chances.

The Tennessee tech game was a tale of 2 halves as well it seemed.

I would argue we've been a better 2nd half than 1st half team this year....is that Martin making adjustments at halftime or our guys waking up? Or something else?

Guess you could, but who in the world could argue that?

As for the reason, I suppose the players should hold themselves accountable for giving max effort from the tip. But I would argue that it is the coaches responsibility to have his guys coming out ready to play 9 time outta 10.(even great coaches teams come out flat once in a while) However if they aren't yank'em and bring in the next 5. That is something Martin has NEVER done.

I had a buddy tell me this game was at a neutral court? Was he fos?

It won't be played at WSU usual home court, it'll be played in a bigger arena downtown where they play a game each year. It's still considered a home game for them, much the way UCONN uses Gampell Pavilion and the XL Center (formerly Hartford Civic Center).

To be honest I can probably count on 1 finger how many high major coaches I've ever seen pull an entire starting 5 <2 minutes into the game.

Thanks. I couldn't determine if it was considered a home game or not.

Koch Arena, WSU's home arena is on campus, around 5 miles from downtown Wichita. The game will be played at Intrust Bank Arena, which is Wichita's arena for entertainment acts, our semi-pro hockey team, and is used for basketball games ranging from regular season showcase match ups for WSU once a year, as well as K-State plays a game in Wichita the past couple years now, to hosting an NCAA Women's Tournament site, and hopefully a men's tourny site in the future.

The homecourt advantage will still be big in favor of WSU, but not as much as if it were played at our home arena, which is deafening, and the crowd is right there on top of you. At IBA, it is more of your traditional modern arena, upper decks, etc.

Due to the distance between the home arena and the "neutral" site arena, it is still considered a home game for WSU for RPI calculation.

not a real college bball fan then. IMO I can't count on one hand the number of times Roy Williams has done it.

Not in a single UNC game this year he has, and he possibly should've against Belmont or UAB don't ya think?

If you have a specific game in mind I would love to know and see if I can find a replay. I just think it's one of those common used phrases that is completely overplayed and fictional.

I think it was the 2011-12 season I saw Williams do this more than once. But here is an example of another great coach getting his teams attention by sittin their butt down for a few.

That's K sitting 2 starters to start the game, not starting his usual 5 and after a slow starter pulling the entire starting 5.

Had to throw my two cents in on this convo.

I've never seen a coach at a major program bench the entire starting five to get their attention, but I have seen good ol' Popovich do it with the Spurs.

Right I've not seen it either which was my original point. You hear a lot of people say do it, but I'm not sure they realize it's not some common practice.
