Bobby Petrino could bolt from Louisville

Considering Kiffin, Petrino or Briles as possible HC for Tennessee, should be three names right above Moe, Larry and Curly.

Agreed and understand, but Petrino could and would pull talent at UT he did not not have access to in his previous trip to the SEC. I'd throw all the consenting adult former volleyball girls at him money could buy to get him on The Hill. UF & UGA would be fighting for 2nd place in the East as long as he was at UT is my opinion.

Your opinion is that he'd win the SEC East every year, based on the fact that he won the SEC West a total of 0 times. That's a pretty rosy prediction for him

What if's???? Someone will likely have a tough job in the near future in finding a replacement for the head coach. As divided as the forum appears to be I do not envy the AD nor anyone else in making that selection.

This blows my mind. I respect your point of view, don't agree with it, but never thought I would see this sentiment from ANY Vol fan in my lifetime. I may get over it ten years after my being cremating and dumped at my favorite surfing spot at Venice Beach, just may.

If you think Kiffin is bad for taking his dream job at USC, look at the things Petrino has done. He's destroyed every major program that's hired him by the time he left. We would end up hating him way more than Kiffin

Observations after reading this thread.

1. To all of you who don't want CK or Petrino....please remember all these problems you have with them when one of them winds up at Florida, A&M, Ole Miss, or Auburn and quickly become a force and in Florida's case hand it to us annually. PLEASE remember that YOU wanted the choir boy who has relegated us to 3rd place regularly in the east.

2. Please quit with the "well he's at UofL and their basketball program is dirty so he's dirty" argument. That was a BASKETBALL investigation. NO FOOTBALL IS BEING MENTIONED. So please just stop.

3. "Well he never won the SEC west so we don't want him". You're an idiot. He played in the division with Saban. NOBODY wins over there until he retires.

4. "He's never won big anywhere".....give him OUR resources and OUR recruiting base and I GUARANTEE we are in Atlanta within 2 years.

If you are happy with being average....just keep Coach Flat Top and stop complaining. You want greatness? You better take some risks.

Les Miles and Gus Malzahn did. Why not a "better" coach like Petrino? Why did he get blown out against basically every good team at Arkansas?

I don't think he is leaving Louisville on his own accord, I think the AD just pulled the ejection seat lever.

What about that Aub assistant, does it rise up to Bruce Pearl?

From ESPN's piece:
"It's very disappointing," Leath (Auburn president) said. "I think university presidents are always concerned that the tail doesn't wag the dog. And then you see things like this going on under people's noses, and you wonder how it's even possible."

This is ridiculous. His last two years at Arkansas he lost to a number one ranked Alabama, a number 7 ranked Auburn, a number 6 ranked Ohio State (all in 2010), a number one ranked Alabama and a number three ranked LSU in 2011 who went on to play each other for the national title.

Over those same two years he beat an 18th ranked South Carolina, a 22 ranked Miss St., a 6th ranked LSU, a 14th ranked A&M, a 15th ranked Auburn, a 10th ranked South Carolina and an eleventh ranked K State.

He turned ARKANSAS into a winner. People may not like the guy because he had an affair and lied about it, that is fine but to argue that he wouldn't make Tennessee a pretty instant front runner in the East (if not the SEC outside of bama) is nuts.

and that lost to ohio state was in the sugar bowl pre-playoff era. we lost our chances for the sugar bowl against the cocks and freaking vandy nailed the coffin closed. id be so happy if we hired petrino. way happier than our last three coaching hires....butch will be happy at east carolina or geaorgia southern next year. he thrives in that atmosphere

If UT Football stoops so low that they hire Bobby Petrino, then I will tap out as a fan until he is gone. Gosh, we have to have some sort of sense of pride in the team that we root for. That guy is everything that I work to make sure that my children never become in life. Winning aint that important IMO.

I live in Central Arkansas and my husband is a Hog fan. Petrino is a terrible recruiter. He never sticks around a program more than 4-5 years because that is when things start to catch up with him. This whole thing with Pitino and the AD is the perfect opportunity for him to skip town. He is a scumbag and would be a terrible hire here.

At least this guy's been happy with recent UT football

Are you so ignorant as to compare what he had to work with at ARKANSAS to Auburn and LSU? SERIOUSLY? And for the record it took not 1 but TWO miracles for Auburn to win the West that year (Prayer at Jordan Hare and the Kick Six). Dude if you can win 10 and 11 games at Arkansas, imagine what he could do in Knoxville. You need to get educated my friend.

Chip Kelly is the first guy you call, he's a home run hire with no buyout to worry about.
Petrino gets an interview but he gets seriously questioned about his passed antics and turnover.
After those two guys it's really personal preference, but if I'm taking a shot on an up and coming coach I'll say Tee Martin. He's a phenomenal recruiter, has developed a 1st round draft pick QB, his offense is blowing people up hanging 42 on Stanford and averaged 40 points during USC's 9 game winning streak last season. And on top of that he's a UT alum and won a NC here. Alums typically do pretty well when returning to their schools. He's an offensive coach who wouldn't even have to look for a top notch DC, we already have one in place. Seems like a perfect match with the only con being the lack of HC experience so there would be a learning curve.

This is also bogus. The man stayed at Louisville for four years before accepting a better job at Arkansas. He stayed at Arkansas for four years before he was fired. Western for a year and then back to Louisville for the last four (which by the way probably says a little something about the guy that Louisville took him back after he left and after the scandal). Petrinos recruiting classes were also consistently better than Nutts or Bielemas. You are not going to have a top 5 recruiting class at Arkansas. This also shows that the guy did more with less. He has some character flaws no doubt but he will win. Someone in the SEC is going to pick him up. IF Butch gets canned I would rather it be us than one of our rivals.

Actually, it's not bogus. After the motorcycle scandal, it came out that he had been in talks with Louisville to leave Arkansas for months prior to the accident. The Hogs did not finish in the top half of the conference in recruiting all 4 years he was there. He actually did worse than Nutt. You might not get a top 5 class at Arkansas, but you should at least be cracking the top 15.Once his bad recruiting gets too much for him to overcome, he bails. You basically confirmed my job hopping assertion with your own words. The guy doesn't stick around more than 4-5 years. It's a fact. He might be able to do "more with less" for a short period of time, but he always hits a wall and then moves on. Pair that with the fact that he's a sleazeball, and I'll take a hard pass. There are better options.

This thread is about petrino thus the title, also you mention schools in the west, and later you state no one can win the west while saban is there...seems ur the idiot...

2. Please quit with the "well he's at UofL and their basketball program is dirty so he's dirty" argument. That was a BASKETBALL investigation. NO FOOTBALL IS BEING MENTIONED. So please just stop.

He is dirty, there are plenty of scandals associated with him, dont want him at my school, easy, plus at the first sniff of adversity he will flee, see Atlanta falcons

3. "Well he never won the SEC west so we don't want him". You're an idiot. He played in the division with Saban. NOBODY wins over there until he retires.

Yet you mention that he will go to a team in the west, so why do we care, play him once every 4 years or so. mute point

4. "He's never won big anywhere".....give him OUR resources and OUR recruiting base and I GUARANTEE we are in Atlanta within 2 years.

WTF does your guarantee mean, nothing ill answer that for you, you cannot and do not know this thus again your statement is null and void....next...

my point is not to call you names as you did us, but to state that there are plenty of more talented coaches all over, who deserve the job beofre this imbecile

Again, the Hogs will NEVER finish at the top of the conference in recruiting. They only finished in the top half of the conference twice, once under Nutt and once under Petrino. Petrino led them to two 21st ranked recruiting classes which are the top two classes Arkansas has ever had. When you are an up and coming elite coach you are going to progressively move to better and better jobs every few years. Talking to someone and actually going there are very different things. Coaches (or any employee for that matter) often will talk to other schools just to get raises at their current schools. I don't necessarily disagree that he may be a sleazeball, that is debatable and I also think Kelly would be a better option but if you want a 'homerun' hire and define 'homerun' by wins and losses I would put Kelly/Petrino as 1/2.
