Sad day for college football, Bobby Bowden was indeed a great coach and individual

RIP BB. What most people don't realize is how close Bobby was to leaving FSU and becoming Alabama's head coach. That was his dream job. The AD @ Alabama told Bobby all he had to do was show up and sign the contract. When he got there he thought it was a done deal. However, he had to interview with about 30 people at one time. He felt disrespected and felt he wasn't dealt with honestly. He left Tuscaloosa and never looked back. Went on to become the coach of the team of the 90's. He talks candidly about this in the special about him last year.

I have somewhat had an interest lately in FSU and their history. Believe me, the Vols are first and foremost as my wife and I both graduated from UT. But I have a vested interest in FSU because my daughter attends there. She isn't a football fan by any means and I have been trying to talk her into going to at least one game before she finishes up there. Told her it would be a lot of fun and a nice way to spend a Saturday. The local newspaper here (Panama City) has had some excellent articles about Bobby. He seemed like the real deal. A very nice man from the stories I have read and always friendly with the fans. One fan wrote about how you could leave memorabilia at his house and he would gladly sign it for you and you could come back by and pick them up in his garage.
