I'd rather go 2-10 and get a REAL HC after this year, then keep going 4-8 or 5-7 and have to wait another 2 years. However, this only works if we will actually pay money for a proven coach, which we have shown no willingness to do in the last decade. Bama fans never complain about how much Satan makes.

We are paying money for a HC.... at least 2 right now. Maybe 3 if Dools is still on the payroll? Bama only has to pay Saban.

I just don’t understand why more fans cannot understand this. It’s baffling.

What's even more puzzling is that anyone who has watched this team this year can clearly see the upgrade when watching Pruitt's recruits vs Butch's boys. Imagine an entire roster filled with players like that. Hard to imagine it wouldn't be a much, much better program.

Another consideration. If Pruitt gets fired, you can be sure most of his assistants will move on as well. Granted, I'm not a big Friend or Rocker fan, but we've got some very good coaches on this team. Chaney would be gone. Fans had been clamoring for Tee to return. Unless Fulmer is the choice, he might not hang. Oh...and you can count on Fitz leaving, too. We almost lost him this year. Back to square one with the S&C program.

Then there's the transfer portal. Kids are moving like never before. You pull the plug on the guy they signed to play for and I would be shocked if guys like Henry T., Gray, Banks, Crouch etc don't move on. The upcoming recruiting class likely goes up in smoke as well.

Of course, this won't mean a thing to some fans. They're convinced UT can spend their way to a championship. Just put the right number in front of a name coach and he'll uproot his family and make the move to Knoxville. Everyone wants to live in E. Tn, right? Then he'll proceed to make all americans out of a decimated roster filled with jucos, 2-3 star players and transfers and win the SEC in his first year. A natty by year 3. Just imagine how many championships we'd have won if we'd have done all that years ago. Sounds like a helluva plan!!
