I wish I owed someone 900 grand. Meant at one time I thought I'd have it.

Well this is stupid on PSU's part. Pretty sure Shoop paid his own buyout to come here. That being said, I think it's just another way for them to get money. PSU is shady.

He could tell them he is coming back to work off the debt....who is next?

So at first Shoop was the best DC that could have happened to us but now after ONE season, he sucks and we can do better? Lol

At first it was a outstanding/great hire. I was personally thrilled, said so many times here in this forum. We had great expectations for a much improved defense that "no one would ever run on"......and then the incredibly disappointing defense happened through the course of the season, both before and after the injuries, that appeared to be poorly coached and coordinated as players were generally poor fundamentally and routinely out of position. Had it only been as bad as the Jancek (36th in total defense in 2015 under Jancek, 95th in 2016 under Shoop) coordinated defense from a year earlier, we very likely would've won the East last year. That, obviously, is why people like me, who was ecstatic with the hire, soured in fairly short order on Shoop and believes he needs to do a full 180 in 2017 or find another job in 2018.

Do some of you clowns even realize that he went over 22 minutes in the second half without allowing Florida one effing first down? Without Kirkland, Sutton or JRM? Dude had two bad games last year in which he was without 7 of his original 11 starters and yall are still yapping.✋

That defense was historically bad man. Gave up over 400 yards rushing to both KY and Mizzou, and over 400 passing to Vandy. They gave up an average of 540 yards per game in SEC play. Did enjoy that Florida beat down in the second half though. Defensive high point of the season unfortunately.

I'd have to agree with you concerning Shoop, it's time he earned his keep, no excuses......Bobber

Do you realize that Shoop took a defense ranked nationally in total defense #36 in the country and had it finish #95 last year? Injuries or not, chew on that for a bit. You wanna point to one good half vs a team that struggled offensively all year long with transfer QBs from Purdue and Oregon State as proof Shoop did a splendid job last year? Fine, I'll give you that....what else you got? Do I need to remind you of our defensive performances vs TAM, Bama, SCar, Ky, Mizz and Vandy?

Can we do much worse? I mean there were many on here, not saying you, that said when Shoop was hired, our defense will be elite. Shoop said nobody will run on us. Well what happened? We were the exact opposite of elite and everybody ran all over us.

Shoop has A LOT to prove this season. We will see if he really is worthy of his reputation or if his success was more due to Franklin. Right now Shoop should be considered no better than a below average DC here.

Not sure why his success would be due to Franklin lol Franklin is an offensive guy.

If you wanna chalk up his success to someone else, you should be mentioning Brent Pry, not Franklin.

Shoop has a defensive mind, he is an "out of the box" thinker on defense for sure. I would venture as far to say he is a defensive guru. I think some schemes he came up with on defense last year were patchwork, definitely trying to cover some glaring weaknesses, and although he may have succeeded in that regard, he got ABSOLUTELY burned in other areas. Don't quote me as a defender or sympathizer of Shoop, last year was horrendous, check my other post on this thread. BUT I am interested to see his mind at work this year. Not only interested, but downright intrigued. This dude gotta put up and he knows it, and while our defense won't be perfect, Shoop is great at adjustment and I think it will be good enough to get the job done.

Shoop followed Franklin to PSU and still had success. So it could be due to Franklin or Shoop. I think this season will let us know.

I think some of our fans can't get any lower and then they somehow find another twisted angle to get lower.

Shoop has been successful at many stops. One down year with loads of injuries and now our fans that celebrated his hire (big name hire in a time of need) want to run him out of town. I wouldn't blame any coach who leaves because of our fickle fan base with no control over their mouths.

Shoop isn't the first coach to work out a buyout deal nor will he be the last.

Here's to hoping he proves all the negative posters wrong this year!!

i love you.

How can you possibly know this as fact?

Nah you're right. I'm sure the guy with a background playing/coaching only offense was responsible for Bob Shoop's previous defensive success. HCs who specialize in one side of the ball never leave scheming or game planning to the coordinator on th other side of th ball 🙄🙄🙄

Shoop is definitely getting advice not to pay from his lawyer and/or agent. No reason not to pay up otherwise.

I encourage anybody with more legal knowledge than I to step in and correct me if I'm wrong, but...

I've seen some legal chatter about the way the language of his contract is worded concerning "liquidated damages" being extremely hard to enforce. Usually, liquidated damages cannot legally be enforced as a penalty to the party who breaks the contract. Liquidated damages are put in place in case the the party who breaks the contract causes the contracting party to lose money.

So basically, for PSU to be able to legally compel Shoop to pay the ~900K(a large chunk of that being the liquidated damages...50% of his remaining contract) they claim he owes, they'd have to be able to prove that his leaving PSU caused them to lose that amount of money.

Seeing as they still had a solid defense in 2016 and a more successful season overall than in 2015, it would be really, really hard to prove.

So it seems likely that this will ultimately be settled and Shoop will basically be able to pay a discounted rate at a much better price.

One of the many things wrong with America right here. If Shoop said he would pay the money, he needs to pay the money.

Nothing like negativity to bust the chops of all the hopefuls for year 2017/18. If you don't have anything positive to say, just shut up. I'm counting the days till we get started and am determined to look favorably on all aspects of our football program. Talking down about our players/coaches is a downer. Get the turd out of your corn flakes and carry on.

Lol, step off the pedestal there bud. Everything is going to be okay. Perhaps instead of worrying about a meaningless fan, you should tell Shoop to pay what he owes.

Agreed. Also it was year one. Usually takes two years for the players to get it. Have to also add the part about some of the defensive coaches not on board with shoop that has since been let go and replaced.

I fully expect our defense to be the best it has in years coming up in 2017.
