Well this is stupid on PSU's part. Pretty sure Shoop paid his own buyout to come here. That being said, I think it's just another way for them to get money. PSU is shady.

Article said that he had a year until he had to pay. If he got a head coaching job in that year, he didn't owe them anything.
Maybe he wasn't planning on being here. But I'm sure the last year's defensive performance didn't land him an offer.

He AGREED to pay his own buyout rather than UT paying it. He hasn't paid YET, hence he's being sued.

Pay up Bob. A deal is a deal. Does make one wonder if an HC position was waiting in the wings? Never understood him leaving in the first place honestly, when he was footing the bill for his own buyout. I hate PSU, but if he owes it, then he needs to stand by his word.

It all depends on the language of his contract. I assumed Shoop had an attorney check that when he decided to bail. If he didn't and handled things on his own, they might have a case. Can't blame the man for wanting outta there, but you gotta cover your bases on things like this.

Maybe his plan was to have a sucky D, get CBJ fired mid season, then be HC in waiting, win out keep the HC job, and not owe PSU a dime?

Did I lay it on too thick?

UT better sue Bob Shoop for that run defense he put on the field last year.
... and Shoop better counter-sue TN for that Sh!tty training and condition program that was in place that contributed in a major way to the decimation of Tennessee's defensive line and linebacker corps...

I think some of our fans can't get any lower and then they somehow find another twisted angle to get lower.

Shoop has been successful at many stops. One down year with loads of injuries and now our fans that celebrated his hire (big name hire in a time of need) want to run him out of town. I wouldn't blame any coach who leaves because of our fickle fan base with no control over their mouths.

Shoop isn't the first coach to work out a buyout deal nor will he be the last.

Here's to hoping he proves all the negative posters wrong this year!!

Yeah kinda hard to be crazy on him considering the decimation of his DL personnel. And he warned us we could be pretty good IF we didn't lose JRM, Sutton etc... and we lost all including etc..,,😩

The man has been successful at every single stop he's ever been at, surely Franklin isn't the reason for that! I think your post was spot-on and I believe we have a breakout year on defense, especially with the addition of The Rock at S&C.

I recall one of the Nashville sports talk radio stations talking about this the week of the Vanderbilt game. They were saying his plan to stay with Tennessee was not a long range plan given the way Penn State let him out without requiring payment right away. They said all the deal required was he he land a head coaching job. They admitted they did not know the arrangement of who was going to be responsible for it; however, they felt UT would pay it. According to them, he could have taken a head coaching job at an OVC school and that would have avoided the buyout. I really thought he would have gone to Western Kentucky when it opened up given that his family was living in Nashville. He may be waiting for the MTSU or Vandy job to open up.
