Through 6 games, Shoop's defenses at MSU are giving up 12.7 points and 289.7 yards per game. I think he is determined to make the case that the last two years were Butch-induced rather than an indictment of his abilities as a DC.

BUTCH was an IDIOT.... flat out and he wanted to be a CONTROL FREAK but he didn't know football: examples: Playing Hurd over Kamara and Kelly; Hurd should have been moved to TE. Not knowing how to used Dobbs until his Junior year.... Never giving Preston Williams a chance. Playing that kid at MLB (forgot his name) and on and on. Just look at how many players that was on Tenn that are in the PROS and doing well and the most Butch could do was win 9 games: Barnett, Reeves-Maybin, Sutton, J. Coleman, A. Kamara, Malone, A.J. Johnson, Maggit for a season or 2; McCullers, Dobbs, Peterman, c'mon man....

I believe the name you were looking for is Colton Jumper.

Injuries and poor recruiting.
Injuries and poor development. Recruiting was by far his best skill as a coach, and even though he was overrated at it, he wasn't a poor recruiter. Recruiting is the only reason he was able to get to 9 wins, because he sure as hell wasn't developing the talent he was recruiting.

Butch isn't on campus this yr and the defense still isn't very good.

Yeah its all Pruitts fault that the players he inherited are slow, weak, soft and undisciplined. Funny how Shoop has succeeded everywhere he has been EXCEPT his time with Botch.

I wouldnt say that Butch was a poor recruiter. He was just average. He didnt recruit many SEC level guys. His mindset was stuck in the AAC.
