Not even a cheggerboards on the play... cheeeese.

That would have been electric with John Ward calling it...

There's no guarantee on that. The proof that there's no guarantee is in Ward's call of Stoerner's fumble. That was as boring as it gets.

It's stupid. He made the call. He was excited.

Bob just isn't very good, when compared to John Ward or Mike Keith.

Bob seems bland and boring even when he should be going out of his mind.

Kesling is just not good. I thought the exact thing. What a turn of events? That's what an 80 year old art critic would say about a scene in a play. Priest is losing his mind and Kesling holds fast to being as boring as possible. If a 747 loaded with dynamite crashed at midfield immediately after this play he would have remarked that it was certainly something unexpected.

I actually liked his call, he has a good voice. After seeing a few other highlights with radio voiceovers last night, and realizing how unprofessional they are, I'm even more impressed with Bob.

Bob was more excited than the OP described it BUT I do agree he missed a golden opportunity for an iconic phrase.

Me an my wife said the same thing. Ive noticed he gets more excited calling basketball games than football. Give me a john ward any day that actually gets excited when ut scores

isnt that where he got his start? you should hear Mickey Dearstone call a womens game, from the mirror reflection he uses to look at himself. i feel safe saying this having years in media, that guy may be a great person but he is the biggest joke ive EVER encountered as a radio personality and play by play. he fumbles around more than anyone ive ever heard. id rather listen to a student run ETSU Bucs game than Dearstone, no joke. his off topic personal stories are a joke. anyway. jmo. So, Bob Kessling? could be worse.

To those that say "not even a checkerboards?", I have to ask: are there checkerboards in Sanford Stadium? No? Then of course Kesling is not going to say that. Common sense goes a long ways.

His call of the game winning hail mary....SUCKED. Here we have an iconic, historic moment in UT football history, and the dude announces it in the tone like a guy who is pleasantly surprised to find out the breakfast buffet has extra pancakes.

Instead of getting a classic call like John Ward used to give, we get "What a surprising turn of events!".

Are you kidding me?

I didn't hear it yesterday, but looked it up after reading your post...... you're spot on.... it did suck.
Verne had more energy than Bob.... and the guy calling the Michigan vs Michigan State game last year did too..., on the fumble by the punter.

Those of us old enough to have grown up with Ward have a much greater understanding of this. He would have painted a great picture and added much more flair....... "What did he do?....HE CAUGHT IT!!! TOUHDOWN BIG ORANGE!!!!"

At least Priest said "Brent you can close your mouth now"

I wouldn't say I'm that emotionally involved in this thread. Lol. Your butt hurt knee Jerk reactions to my posts, however, show that you clearly are emotionally involved. I'll leave you alone so you can continue to rant about Kesling in your insulated bubble. Enjoy the win.

Except many agree with me apparently, so your ability to judge what is "thread worthy" is a bit off.

Oh and LOL at you calling my post "butt hurt knee jerk reactions" Mr. "Jesus Christ shark jumper".

I never listen to the broadcasts. Kesling is the worst play-by-play announcer in history. Mike Keith is no better.

He had a chance to create his own hob nail boot phrase and he blew it. Not the brightest bulb in the chandelier.

So, you want an immature, unprofessional guy (Munson) who acts like a child and sounds like a child with a high pitched whine (Keith and the Florida play-by-play) instead of a professional sounding guy? Got it.

Kesling could have put the hobnail boot thing to bed forever if he'd said "Tennessee just hobnailed them".. Munson's classless call being met similar. Amazing how CBS keeps that in their hip pocket and plays it over and over.

Just because Kesling was hired by the Vols network (or whomever) to some he's immediately beyond reproach. Nobody wants a bland announcer who comes nowhere near matching the excitement of the fans. I think some immediately jump to make excuses for him...or pretend they actually prefer a non-excited announcer just because he's the Vol announcer...so he immediately gets a pass for being boring and not telling you what down and distance it is. I've heard calls from him like "He catches the ball downfield for a big gain" and just left it there. Not even telling us "who" caught the ball or for how many yards..etc etc.

Verne Lundquist was more excited and he's supposed to be non biased.

Just cuz Kesling is a "Vol" it doesn't mean he can't be bad. It was a lame call..in keeping with how he usually is.

"What a turn of events" is just hilarious to me. That's the best phrase he could come up with on such a monumental and historic play?

It was bland and was not worthy of the moment. Team 120 had just won an epic game on a last second TD pass between the hedges and that was the response. This was a time to show genuine excitement. The game is over! It was epic! Amazing! Reflect the excitement we all felt! Instead it felt like he was just a casual observer announcer who wasn't a Vol fan trying to stay neutral.

I don't get the criticism directed at Kesling.... He shouted "The pass is......... Caught!!!!! For a Tennessee touchdown!!!!!!!" I could hear the happiness in his voice, but apparently he sucks because he doesn't call it exactly like John Ward. :pardon:

No its because he sounded like Eddie Murphy's white guy voice.

When the clock ran on the UGA PAT in the 3rd quarter he about lost his mind.

Was that not hilarious?

Priest: The clock is still running! They never stopped the clock! It's still running!

Kesling: They'll get it reset.

Priest: It's still running! They never stopped the clock after the point after!

Kesling: Tim, calm down.
