Bob Kesling was killing me.

From my home, that time of evening, only two or three radio stations were able to be received carrying the Vol Network. Everything else was either the Alabama-Wisconsin game or other SEC games.
When you lose your Television and Internet, you appreciate the Vol Network that much more! Like when your power goes out, you appreciate having flashlights and candlelights.

All of these criticisms are valid but unfortunately Voice of the Vols seems like a lifetime appointment and Bob (17 years and counting) will not abdicate any time soon... Would love to have Mike Keith.

Yuck!! Hate listening to Titans games because of him...and because they suck.

Maybe I didn't hear correctly, but when BGSU fumbled the ball inside the five yard line, Bob sounded disappointed...I wish I could hear that call again to be sure.

With Bob, every out route is a "deep out," as in "Dobbs hits North on the deep out for a 3-yard gain." Are there no rules?

Kesling is terrible. I'd rather have Charles Barkley and Chris Berman in the booth...

I know both teams Saturday were up tempo, but that's not an excuse for sucking the whole game. I couldn't be at a TV or computer for the game and had to listen it being broadcasted over the radio. It was hard to know how long the passes and runs were and where we were on the field before and after the plays. It was really frustrating to listen to, and i would consider any other alternatives from here on. :banghead2:

Knitting needle to the inner eardrums should do the trick, and he is God awful.

Far too many ex football players and others getting into "broadcasting", seemingly without a background linked to calling a game.

Seems like there should be more John Wards out there... a voice with a passion for the job.

Tim Priest brings a lot to the broadcast. And Tim Irwin on Sunday makes Hyams tolerable.

Just can't listen to Kesling after growing up with the greatest to ever call an athletic event IMO. It's painful listening to Bob, bless his heart. I'll forever miss John Ward.

Kesling needs to be promoted to some job upstairs....he is an embarrassment quite frankly. I realize that coming after a legend like Ward is tough,,,but he truly is bad.

That's extremely harsh. I'm sure there's better than Kesling out there, but I grew a huge appreciation for Kesling after watching the 2013 South Carolina game replay with the Local South Carolina commentators.

They were unbearably unprofessional. Everyone on their team was better than everyone on our team, every call that went against SC was a "bad call", at one point all 3 of them agreed that "Every time you come to Neyland the calls go against you the whole game."

At least Bob doesn't show his homerism, and doesn't whine the whole game.

I remember that. They were worse than awful. And I'm from SC:blush:.

Me too, but I wish that all of you younger folks [under 50] could have heard George Mooney....He was a close second to John Ward - Ward took his place when he retired to take care of his many business interests....

I love the Vol Network pregame and postgame, as well as Vol Calls and the Big Orange Hotline, but the play-by-play can be frustrating.

Kesling is a TV guy, and he struggles to paint a picture for non-viewers. Priest's commentary helps, but it generally comes after the play, and if it's a close game, you find yourself continuously asking, "what happened?...what happened?!?!"

This! ^^^

Better than Verne Lundquist where everything is preceded and/or followed with "WOOOWWWWW!!!!"

. . . or "oh, my goodness" and the nauseatingly sick Tim Tebow tributes and homage payments. On the other hand, one of the most polished broadcasting voices I have ever heard belonged to Ray Scott, the longtime Voice of the Packers. When he was affiliated with the Mizlou Television Network, Scott occasionally covered Tennessee games. If you are unfamiliar with his name, voice or broadcasting style, listen to part of this 1988 Peach Bowl game between Tennessee and Indiana: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3BnXnLb3BJI.

When John Ward was announcing, I would turn up the radio and turn the TV volume off.
Now I try to listen to the pregame but that's it. Radio is off before kickoff.
Only time I listen to the game on the radio now is if I'm on the road and have no choice.
Back in the day, use to love to go bass fishing and listen to John Ward. GIVE HIM SIX, TOUCHDOWN TENNESSEE!
Vols fans deserve better than Kesling, bottom line.
Bob may be a good guy, but time to move on............

I have purposely avoided the radio and just followed the game on my phone because of my disdain for Bob the Blob.

I cringe whenever I hear "Into the Chegger boards." what the *bleep* is a chegger board?

I remember watching a replay a few years back with it synced to bobs version. "Rajon Neal takes the handoff, spins, he fights, breaks a tackle, still on his feet. What a run by Neal!" You would think he dropped a 20 yard run with broken tackles. It was a 3 yard run to the sideline where he was shoved out of bounds.
He is terrible. Tenn deserves better. He needs to pack his bags and leave.
