Board Mood If We Go 0-4?

Didn’t most predict 6-6 or 5-7 this season . I’m still miffed that we blew that Pitt game could be 5-1 right now and ranked. The goal was to get back to a bowl game I would be satisfied with that but I don’t think we go 0-4 we beat either Kentucky or ole miss or both of them Go Vols!!

Trying to be a realist is no fun, I know.

I appreciate the eternal optimists, y’all keep me young and I’d be more than happy to eat crow about this team’s disadvantages.

There is someone here, I think sjt, who disputes that we have depth issues.

The folks who only post when we are losing will return with dozens of posts about Lane and Hugh Freeze.

I'd be sad but not stunned. For the first time in years I don't feel like the players have to go out and overcome mistakes by the staff. I feel like we are prepared and play fundamentally sound football.

If we go out and look terrible, can't tackle, multiple busted coverages across four games, can't get anyone open, the OL becomes a revolving door, and we look like a Pruitt/Butch/Dooley team I'll be mad but still understand we are in a 3-5 year process.

We finally got a good game day coach guys who will give us a shot in every game the rest of the way. Did you ever feel confident with Pruitt and Butch or Dooley on game day and making the necessary adjustments to win a big game?

That seems like a hard case to make. But maybe I’m preemptively making excuses for the next four games to make myself feel better.

The trolls would be out in force on here trying to cause trouble with the fan base but I really believe most Vol fans can see this coaching staff has things going in the right direction even with what they were left with from all the defections and this team plays hard.

It will be very disappointing but as long as the games are competitive I think the apathy a lot of have had the last few yrs will not come back.

Considering where this program was at prior to 1/27/21 and where they are today.. No I would not be upset at all. This program has had more adversities this past year than ever in my opinion.

I don’t think knowleable fans will crack and demand changes, but the game watchers might only see a loss, not how or why.
I am actually more Concerned with how the team might react to a 4 game losing streak.

I think they win at least one of them if injuries don’t take a toll. Thankfully Ole Miss is probably the least physical team of the four.

Pretty calm, honestly. I was figuring on 5-6 wins this season, so if the Vols manage to pluck a win or two out of the next 4 games it's gravy (and a positive sign for sure).

I’ve never liked this thought process. “Before the season”
The regular season is halfway over. Expectations should be adjusted to how we are currently playing not what was predicted before the season.

I'm sorry, but I don't really understand your point here. My statement does just that. I was using the phrase 'Before the season started' to convey the apprehension that most realistic fans had when breaking-in a new coach, staff and systems and with the personnel losses we had due to the portal. My point was that now - at this point in the season - the fans are talking about the possibility of winning one or more of these upcoming four games. The team's performance vs. the fans' pre-season expectations are as different as night and day, and that seems like progress to me.

I don’t mind Heupel losing the games he’s supposed to lose in his first year. That being said I definitely think UT goes bowling and that’s good for a 1st year coach. You put Pitt and Florida later in the season and those are probably wins for us.

If the team is out there putting points on the board and lose in the last few minutes then oh well that's football. If we were to get blown out in all 4 then it would be kinda disheartening but still should win S. AL and Vandy to make a bowl game.

That said I think we win at least 1 of the next 4 and honestly 2 out of those 4 is very possible. If we beat Ole Miss saturday then I say we can beat Bama and KY. We got the offense if the guys stay healthy to score with Bama and Bama D isn't that great this year and our guys are starting to peak...

I would love to go 2-2 over the next 4 weeks, 1-3 is more likely, 0-4 is also very much there. 6-6 would get us to a bowl, which is very important for this program. If Heupel beats Kiffin this weekend, recruiting will pick up greatly

I just have a hard time seeing UT go 0-4 during the next four games based on how well we are playing. I know lopsided victories were against SCAR and MIZZOU but they were still wins against SEC competition. We all expected the offense to be better but the turnaround on defense was not expected. The improvement from game to game has me optimistic. GBO!!!

Almost the same. We obviously have a great offensive scheme. Heupel reminds me of a modern Spurrier. Give him time and we’ll be rewarded. He’s showing a level of execution on offense that I haven’t seen since Peyton

I’ve maintained all along that it’s an overplayed angle. Next man up has impressed so far. I was expecting Beckwith to contribute so that’s affected the RBs, but when both Evans and Small are healthy, that’s a much better unit than last season. OL isn’t as stocked as I predicted, but if 2-3 younger players develop in-season as rapidly as the rest of the team? The reality just doesn’t fit the narrative. We were set to have an epically bad defense and no running game…what happened?

I think it’s apparent on both lines. Some depth there is needed in a bad way. Agree with you it’s overplayed, but it’s not untrue.
