Siap, but thought this guy deserved his own thread since he has been contacted per skeeter.

Playing Career: An all SEC defensive lineman at LSU that graduated in 1993. As a senior he started all 11 games at noseguard recording 66 tackles and 4 tackles for loss.

High School Coaching Experience: Coached at North Shore high school in Galena Texas from 1997-2002

Strength and Conditioning: He left North Shore in 2002 to become the assistant Strength and conditioning coach at LSU under Nick Saban.

Miami Dolphins: Spent the 2006 season at the Dolphins as Sabans assistant strength and conditioning coach and assistant defensive line coach.

Alabama: Followed Nick Saban to Bama, and spent 4 years there as a defensive line coach. Alabama had this to say about his 2008 season "The Alabama defensive line saw great improvement in 2008, which helped the Crimson Tide develop into one of the top defensive units overall nationally. Davis added Cody to the starting lineup at nose guard and the junior was named an All-American in his first season. Alabama ranked second nationally in terms of rush defense, allowing just 74.1 yards per game on the ground. UA also ranked among the top seven in the country in total defense (263.5 ypg) and scoring defense (14.3 ppg)."

Texas: In 2011 Davis turned down a job offer from florida (despite his ties to Muschamp), but weeks later took the defensive tackles job at Texas. His reason for leaving, ""Having worked with Coach Saban and learning so much from him, I thought it was another great opportunity to work with Coach Brown," Davis said. "He's a guy I've really respected and enjoyed getting to know. He and Coach Saban are legends in this sport. Just to have the chance to work with coaches like that is something any coach in America would want to experience." He has also kept a hand in the strength and conditioning program of his Dlineman while at texas. Upon his hiring, he was reffered to by the texas media as a young energetic coach with a history of success and ties to the state of texas.

Recruiting: As previously mentioned Davis had ties to the state of Texas specifically the Houston area even before his time at texas, those ties have undoubtedly strengthened now. Would more than make up for the presence that we lost in the state of texas with the departure of russell. Also has ties to louisianna and Mississippi (recruited very heavily in this area at Bama and still recruits there Jucos heavily at texas). Previous recruits include John Brown (4 star from lakeland Fl),Terrance Cody (3 Star from MS), Damion Square (3 star from Houston TX) Kenny Bell (4 star from LA), Anthony Steen (4 star from MS), Rod Woodson (4 star from MS), Anthony Steen (3 star from MS), Brandon Lewis (3 star from MS), Chad Lindsay (3 Star from texas), DeAndrew White (4 star from TX).

Would be a good get, but why would he want to leave Texas and come to Tennessee for a lateral move?

The fact that he has coached with Dooley, money, and a chance to get back into the SEC would be a few of my guesses. When he went from texas to bama he took a pay raise from 279,000 a year to 325,000. If we are willing to offer him somewhere in the ball park of lance thompson type money, I wouldn't be surprised if he took it. Especially considering that he spent his playing career and most of his coaching career in the sec, and he might want to get back.

Would be a fantastic hire if Dooley can get him. Must say Mack Brown/Texas is not very stable right now either.....

Why would he leave Texas to come here for the same job

I have seen this question continue to be asked. I understand Mack Brown might be in trouble, but we went 5 & 7 and lost to a team for the 1st time in almost 3 decades. Why would he come here? Is this guy a pipe dream or a realistic option?
