I'm so sick of people who miss mediocrity. By the time Fulmer's tenure was over, the only tradition prevalent was that we sucked. If the 2000's under Fulmer was tradition... then I don't want it; We don't need it. It's a time of change, people. A new era. Whatever it takes to win is what we should do. It doesn't matter if we wear pink jerseys and never punt again, we have been playing better football lately than we have in over 10 years.

We wouldn't be watching games in "Big Orange Country" if it weren't for Ray Mears coining the phrase, as well as bringing so many other great traditions to Knoxville. Doug Dickey came from Florida and put the "T" on the helmets. The point is that all traditions must have a beginning, and believe it or not, they can be started from someone coming from outside the program. Lane Kiffin is no different, and deserves an equal chance.

To all of the fans who left after seeing Tennessee come out in black or who groan when we go for a fourth down, MOVE TO SOUTH BEND... ENJOY LOSING TO NAVY. That's more your style. The stadium will be much louder without you. You keep getting older while the players stay the same age. We finally have a leader in town who understands that for the winning teams, it's a player's game... not a booster's game.

Here's to a new era of Tennessee football. It's not for the faint of heart. It's going to be fun to sit back and watch how this program changes as well as it's fanbase. Even more so, it's going to be funny to sit back and watch as the so called traditionalists can't do a damn thing about it. If you're not on the Lane Train, then you are metaphorically standing at the station.

Go Vols. :hi:

Just a thought but why do you seem to hint that those who are upset with the changes currently going on seem to be people who are older? Or at least that is how i read your post. I would hazard a guess that i am much older than you. I enjoyed tremendously the black jersey scenario and fooling the whole Vol nation. That was more excitement in the stadium than i have seen in many years.

I also love CLK's mouthy barbs, his method of coaching, and the fire he has brought to this team. I think we are headed to be Miami of the 90's without the thugs and discipline problems. Once we get the players, we are not only going to beat you, we will tell you how bad you suck while we do it. I still say the worst thing we can do is pray at midfield with the opposing team after the game. I pray often so i say pray before the game that the other team survives. :hi:

Ahhh gotcha. I was not sure whether he was blaming all old people or just that the one's he observed were older. There seems to be a lot of "Geritol" slants on the board lately. I prefer Red Bull over a triple Espresso and chased with 1800 Tequila to calm me down. :salute:

I have been coming to games for almost 30 yerars and the last 7-8 have been horrible. Not only as a product on the field, but also ALOT of our fan base.

I like to STAND the whole game, always have, and at one time I used to feel bad for the people behind me until about 5 years ago until I finally started telling them to go to he!! and just head west and besome a VANDY fan.

Your right about the traditions and I believe Dickey brought back the running through the T.

I support this man's statement 100%. The place needs to ALWAYS be rocking EVEN if that means NEW BLOOD in the stand.

Look at Oregan, 55,000 fans and considered the loadest place to play in country. That's Bull Crap considering what we got. If you can't stand and raise HE!! go cheer for someone else.

ALWAYS GO VOLS TILL I DIE!!!

As long as we're winning (and winning big again), I don't care if the stadium is filled with people wearing beer-drinking hardhats and no shirts. Picture all of the golf fans on Happy Gilmore. lol

a lot of those blue hairs also pay a lot of money to the athletic department. if you're willing to pick up their contributions, then complain all you want.

and to BamaSucks: you realize that everyone who goes to the game isn't able to stand for 3 hours, right? there's no real reason to be standing the entire time when we're on offense anyway.

My knees are wracked with arthritis, not my vocal cords. My non-standing self will outyell your punk discriminatory arse any day of the week. I pay for my ticket just like you and I will not be marginalised just because I can't stand the whole game.

I gave my legs and lungs for the Vols for four years... What have you given?

Note the time of the post-----3-AM. Dude was either half asleep or jacked on something. I don't think a single fan left Neyland on Halloween. Far as I can tell all UT fans are very happy with CLK. Sometimes you just gotta rant---I guess.

You take away the "blue hairs" and the stadium would only be half full, the "blue hairs" have supported this team longer then some of the fans have been alive. Their monetary contributions over the years crush the contributions of the younger fans.

I have watched CLK shake his head in disbelief during the games as our fans are making noise when we are on offense. Some of the younger fans need to learn to remain seated and quiet when we have the ball and only cheer after a good play and get quiet again when we come up to the line of scrimmage.

Karma is a bi*** and 20 to 30 yrs from now when the young people now become older they will be the ones being called "blue hairs" and will realize that payback is a real bi***.

To Bamasucks: Dickey did not bring back running thru the T, he is the one who started it
Majors is the one who started the Vol Walk

I feel for those who cant stand the entire game but comon. Our fan base seems to hate a rowdy gameday experience. The stadium needs to be like a party the entire game. Collin Cowherd talked about this happening to stadiums all over the country. Renovations are trading out cheap seats for expensive luxury box seats and therefore pushing out the people who want to be rowdy but cant afford to come to the game anymore. This sucks as I see our total capacity keep dropping inside neyland and know that due to that we are losing our noise factor.

The blue hairs are the ones paying the bills. The younger generation doesn't care as much about tradition, only wins and losses. So you have a conflict of interest, only the older people have more money, they win end of story.

In looking at the crowd, several did leave after halftime (both UT and S. Car. fans). I think that had mostly to do with the weather. Being an alum, I'm not thrilled with the black jersey thing, but thought it was cool for a halloween thing. I'm not old and am very happy the CLK. I have been told by those blue hairs to sit down before and am glad that people that stand and cheer now sit behind me, it makes the games more fun. I hope that all the blue hairs move to the new TN Terrace. Next year you won't be able to go into that area unless you have a ticket there, so they will all be isolated. This will allow a section for those who can't stand at all a place to go.

I don't think this applies to some that can't stand at all. I know 99% of the people on here would limit standing to help out someone who has bad knees, backs, etc.

Bottomline is you do not have to stand to be loud, the sound factor is much greater to the opposing team then standing. I have seen plenty of fans stand the entire game and not yell or scream, just clap, pathetic.

ETSU: not everyone hates a rowdy fan base. if you're in sections R thru W, yes, you're going to get some comments in the lowers if you're standing the whole game, for sure.

i was one of those who left a little after halftime at the SC game. MY gf who cared for neither team had been sick, and there was no way I was going to be putting up with that debacle for the rest of the night had I stayed there. Plus, it was pretty cold and damp wearing a bathrobe to the game.

They need to renovate the stadium and make half the space with no seats, just numbers on the floor for those who prefer to stand. The older folks would occupy the other half with seats. Maybe the upper deck on one side for those with little kids and babies, the one on the other side for smokers. The first half would be played in orange jerseys, the second in black (is there a rule against that by the way?).

There is already a post on people who choose to stand the whole time despite the wishes of everyone else in their section. Those who understand football and realize that there is an ebb and flow to it that allows one to stand at the appropriate time and sit at the appropriate time. Your standing the entire time doesn't make you a better Vol fan than those around you whose vision you are blocking. It just makes you less considerate and in my opinion a Vol fan with less knowledge. I have to ask myself if these "special" standing Vol fans ever actually played football or if that's what they did when they were in the High School glee club or band. Build the case for standing the entire time all you want, but there is a reason that the vast majority of all Tennessee football and basketball fans as well as the fans at every other college or pro venue in America don't stand for the entire game. I think it is because they understand the game better than you do. When we are beating Memphis 42 - 7 there is a pretty good chance that the game is well in hand Albert and we might be able to pull it out without your standing.

I know that it stokes your ego to be standing the entire time and that the Vols couldn't win without your standing and I guess that is just what makes you "special". So again here's to you "Oh special 100% standing Vol fan", yes we may have graduated from UT but I am embarrassed to call myself a fan because you see I have been known to sit at times during Vol games. I know I am ashamed to admit it.

You have shown me the light and I will quit coming to games to make room for your legion of 100% standing
fans that I guess have not been able to get tickets. So "here's to you special 100% standing Vol fan".:hi:

I have supported the University for many years. It occured to me just this Saturday as the band marched to the stadium....where else could you get 50,000 people to congregate outside to hear a marching band play a hillbilly song, over and over and over? Fantastic!
As for black jerseys or even all black once a year? Fantastic!
All orange? Fantastic!
The same goes for brash outspoken coaches. A few more W's will be like smelling salts to any non-believers.

I never made any comments about standing = rowdy only said that I feel for those who cant. My entire post was about my disgust at how Neyland is turning into a tea party for and how a stadium in the pac-10 that has nearly half that of our capacity is not only more intimidating but loader than ours. All the while we b**** about people standing infront of us or dong the wave or the woo in rocky top. Now I am not condoning any of those but we need a great gameday experience for not only our fans but our team.

The product on the field the past 8 yrs, has also dampened the spirits of alot of fans. If the W's continue to happen ( I feel they will ) the decibel levels at Neyland will go up. I think alot of fans have the mindset of lets wait and see what happens next game, from being let down over the years.

You also have to remember alot of those fans were as much of a Fulmer playing conservative fan as much as they were a Vol fan. When you have CLK going for it on 4th down so much it makes them feel uneasy.

Atleast the student section is fun to sit/stand in. I think the Student section is the only place where one can honestly stand the entire game, except of course the occasional timeout or halftime. I do think that the students need to be re-educated on when to scream or when you be quiet. Don't do the wave, especially if we are on offense. But I wouldnt trade my experiences in the student section for anything. I think all ETSU wants is a more intimidating place for opponents to play. I think Neyland gets plenty loud, we will never be LSU or Florida where its like a blood lust playing there. Some of these blue hairs have given plenty to this university. I would expect all of us to continue to give as much as we can to our beloved university. Whether its sitting or standing, we are always there to support our team. Its not always easy to fill 100,000 seats but we do. Thats a testament to our level of support for the University of Tennessee.

I understand what your saying but IF you truly love the team then why not back them. I hated the conservative play calling of ole Phil. Lets play not to lose the game. The man gave us alot of good times and great wins but it was time for him to go. I just wish he could of seen that and could of left on better terms.

But back to the 4th down stuff, if our team is converting them then why be pissed that we are going for it? CLK believes this is a players game and everything he does is to boost the players confidence. Fulmer did whatever he thought was best and towards the end you could see it that the other team's coaches and players knew what we were gonna do before we did it.

Your post is silly. I do not have to do it your way or I am not a vol fan. A lot of post lately against older fans. When are they to old. 40 ,50 or do you have to be 60 to be attacked by people with no respect for others.
