Blessing in disguise

I'm with this. Kiffin upgraded the recruiting, the profile and the enthusiasm but also had some negatives. Things are teed up for the next guy (Gary Patterson). USC took our coach. I think it's all good.

I have no ill feelings for Kiffin - his time here was a net positive.

You may be right! I had high hopes that they would turn the program around but all the time I just felt dirty for pulling for them. Lane led the way. I respected Monte but the others just got under my skin. It's not the end of the world. We were not world beaters this past season anyway with them.

Pass whatever substance you are partaking in to me, please.

Net positive? Teed up for the next guy? The next guy is about to inherit an ugly and very small recruiting class. Will make We Are Marshall look good.

I simply do NOT understand this. He took his DREAM JOB!!! Yeah, it's freaking annoying. Yeah, the timing blows. But, he did what was best for him. This is his career, and he made the best decision FOR HIM. Any half-intelligent person would do the exact same thing.

Not necessarily a net positive just a positive that he's gone.

For the mere rekindling of football passion and getting the Vol name back out there I consider him a net positive.

How are we worse off than if Fulmer had coached last year?

Rock on

Sorry... but no. UT is depleted talent wise. The situation would have been bad but it is made worse by two things. One, the timing. It is likely to erode this recruiting class. Two, Kiffin ran players off that might have been able to play for the next coach.

I remember arguing with people about Fulmer. I said that the safe bet was to let him have that last year to see if he could turn it around. One of the reasons was that if the next coach came in and flopped that UT could sink well below mediocrity and take years to recover. Kiffin did made a lot of decisions I thought would pay dividends. He was recruiting well enough that I figured UT would be OK if we eventually found out he couldn't coach. I didn't see this coming... but it seems to be a way my worst case scenario could still come true.

IF UT has a poor recruiting class to go along with an already depleted roster... the next coach will need at least 4 years to even get a good start on rebuilding the program.

Guys, maybe you all are different from me BUT if I make promises I follow through with them. It's called loyalty. Smart business, probably not but my world is not controlled by the almighty dollar. According to him he was our future. He ran that big ole mouth of his about the future and how this was the greatest place to coach. Then he bolted. He said USC was "Probably" the only job he would have left us for. So USC might not have been the only one. Then he didn't have enough class to answer questions! Classless punk!

Why so mad? You'd leave a job if another one paid more than your current job too.

If I had become a laughing stock and an employer picked me up and gave me everything I wanted.... If fan base and program had put up with some strange behavior and supported me fully... then I'm sorry but NO. My conscience wouldn't allow me to abandon people who had treated me so well and trusted me.

It might get worse before it gets better. Stay Puft set us back 5 years. I'm beginning to wonder if Benedict didn't just set us back another 5.
It's going to get worse, no doubt about that. It's inevitable when you get this much attention in that short of a time. In another recruiting cycle UT will see a turn around until then it's up in the air.

I couldn't agree more with this. He took the job that was best suited for him right now. He did the same thing with UT. It was after he was being fired from the raiders: UT came along and it "FIT." I will not be surprised if he does the same thing at SoCal. That's the kind of guy kiffen is.

Ya, I'm sure if someone threw 3-4 million at you, you would turn them down.

The only thing was kiffin screwed us was recruiting for SoCal.

Unfortunately I will never have the opportunity to prove you wrong but I truly say I could have said no. It's all about who you really are inside. I am loyal. It's not like he was making chump change here was it?
Hope he gets the ax in 2 seasons.

Whatever dude. Don't act all holier than thou. Ever thought about the fact that Kiffin might've just been miserable here? He got offered his dream job with more money, and he took it. Kudos to him. I would've done the same thing.

You, sir, are a better man than me. I have nothing but ill will toward that POS. It is all about the timing of it all. Not only did he kill our recruiting this year, he had that loud mouth Oger-on cherry picking players for USC on our own campus while Lame was giving all of us the middle finger at his press conference.

Ill will towards the bastard?

Yeah, I got some.

No. This is what a mercenary does. Character counts. Integrity counts. When you start putting a price tag on those things... you become nothing more than a prostitute.

Yes. After all UT did for him, he owed more than one 7-6 season and a recruiting class his guys are now trying to systematically dismantle.
