Blame Game

We can all say "well Jalen wasn't happy" or " well he is beatup" or "well he was hurt and lied to". Bottom line, I hope Jalen seeks help for the drinking problem and his ego. Until that is fixed, it doesn't matter to me where he plays football because it won't help.

He quit his team, he quit his obligation, he let his friends and family down, should I go on?

I don't agree that Jalen should have left. Stick it out, man up and deal with adversity, but how many times are you going to let a Mfer lie to you before you say screw it. Jalen is a quiet person. He doesn't do interviews and doesn't do a lot of talking period. You can take that as arrogance or maybe he just doesn't want to be bothered. I don't expect him to ever come forward and say anything cause it's just not his style, but I'll give you an example of the song and dance BS he got every week from Lying Lyle. This is a quick and easy example of what I'm talking about.

I'd say most everyone here are big Vol fan, and I also suspect that you all caught Butch's press conference last week, right? Remember when he talked about mixing up the running game, running out of pistol, etc. Hell, there was a whole thread titled "I-formation" on here because of it, and we talked about it all week.

Well.....

Where was it? Did you see it? Was old Butch lying to us? Did he gas your head up all week that we were going to do something different and then we didn't? What if you got that same ole song and dance on a daily baisis? I promise you're going to get to a point where you're over it.

Last year - "Hey coach, thanks for everything, but I think I might not be the best fit for the program. I'm interested in looking around and maybe go to a more traditional system when I can use my skills better". "No, Jalen we'll do more things to utilize your skill set better here".

Outback Bowl. Out of maybe 8-9 times Jalen runs out of the I, he averaged about 10 yards per carry.

This year - nothing different. Runnng his big a$$ sideways or into a brick wall. Concussion, back injuries, just beat the hell out of.

I PROMISE if someone lies to you over and over and over again, you're going to do something different too!

Even his own teammates voted him out. He's a quitter. You never quit on your teammates. Never! Lost all respect for him. Refused to go back into the game when Kelly got shook up. Our 3rd string has to go in and what happens on the next play fumble recovery by SC cause he knocked it out of Dobbs hands. Wouldn't want to be in a foxhole with him.

Spin it anyway you want. You can choose to believe what I write or NOT. I am going to put the truth out there though like I always have.

Can you explain why his teammates didn't congratulate him after scoring a big TD in the South Carolina game? Just wondering....oh and I am not a sheep....and I know the truth too. Just FYI

This is part of what's wrong with society. We're busy making excuses for bad behavior. The bottom line is this....The team is much bigger than him. He had a team that relied on him. He left his team with 4 games remaining. Now you can all stay on this site and blow sunshine out your backsides making excuses for him. It's everyone's fault but his. At the end of the day, regardless of what is going on, his leaving at this time is wrong regardless of the "why". The bottom line people, is that none of us really know what happened. We're sitting here sulking in misery because of these three losses. If we were undefeated I dare say you wouldn't be talking all this crap about our coach. None of you have any factual basis for your blame game. Now, if your a true Vol fan, get behind your team. Stop screaming fire the coach, this crap gets to recruits. We need top recruits and you crabby people are not helping at all! Now I feel better...Go Vols!!

Is that "drinking problem" something you know about first-hand, or based off message board chatter? Think it's highly irresponsible to just throw that out, especially if it's based on the latter.

When he didn't see something different in spring ball like he was promised, why didn't he look for greener pastures then? He has had 6 months to move on because "Lyle" wasn't doing what he said. He waited until after game 8 to quit? Doesn't make sense to me but I will consider an explanation.

I'm not going to start picking sides but this whole thing is a mess and man oh man how awesome it would be if Butch and Hurd could somehow someway repair the damage come back together and see this season through. Just hate to see Jalen leave at this point in his career. My gut tells me there is probably some truth in your post. Just sad regardless, really sad way to end a great career at TN.

Look at all of Jalen's TDs over the years and see how the teams responds. Sometimes everyone is excited and sometimes no one hardly acknowledges him. Maybe he sat by himself on the bus ride to the game or maybe he sat by himself at the team dinner? Seriously. The guy is a loner and to himself most of the time, but hey if it's fits your agenda run with it!

He doesn't have an explanation. He's a douche and has the same I'm better than everyone complex that he himself, through posts on volnation, has painted Jalen Hurd as having.

Man, everyone has a breaking point. Dumbest thing in the world for him to do. No one can agree to his decision, but you know it must have been pretty bad. Think about all of the adversity he's gone through while he's been here. Kid had been beaten brutally on a regular basis - and no one can dispute that. So, I don't know the answer to "why now". I guess he was just done.

I agree with you that everyone has a breaking point, I just think we all wish it didn't come up in the middle of the season. It just makes everything worse. Really appreciate everything Hurd did for this team, the guy literally carried the team on his back at times over the past two years.

Hopefully this untimely decision does not cost him at the next level, because the physical freak we saw the last two years can be solid at the next level if he gets his head straight again.

Butch could've absolutely ripped Jalen in his press conference like Saban did Blake Barnett...but he didn't. Butch refuses to throw a player under the bus to the media...but here is part of "Team Jalen" on here absolutely ripping Butch.

Butch is showing some class even though he knows the perception that Hurd's departure can create and you are on here calling Butch names. Why on earth should anyone listen to your BS? You would do Jalen a big favor by just staying off the forums.

Of course, but have I ever been wrong?

Not gloating. I'm just being honest.

How the heck should WE know if you're wrong?

I will say this: If EVERYTHING you've said is true, why does his own mother disagree with his decision? If he's been treated so poorly. If he's been lied to so much. If Butch has wrecked his career and caused all these injuries to him. WHY would his own mother not be in full support of him?

That's what I can't wrap my mind around.

You mean you're not going to believe it like everything else here. Been around JH a long time and while he drinks a few here and there like any kid, dang sure doesn't have a drinking problem.

This is a stretch but maybe bUTch said the pistol formation to give USC a false game plan.
The way you described the situation of the bowl game is exactly the way that I envisioned it.

I think the ego problem is the bigger issue. Oh also some dude claiming ties to him on a message board. Yea that guy didn't help Jalens image at all

Seriously, this doesn't help anyone. Jalen's mom was classy and respectful to both her son and the University that we are all so passionate about. No way to do anything but speculate at this point. If you have a major tie to Jalen, I would take a break and do something fun. Defending any part of this is just a waste of time...IMO. It will pass and emotions will die down and we can talk civil.
