It is disgusting, as was Emmitt Till. The difference is that in the mid-1950's, nobody ever heard about isolated deaths around the country. I think that we got a tv about that time, and not that many people had them. For most people, you really couldn't pick up but a few radio stations, and only saw a local paper.

It was a time when POTUS had a captivated audience. If Obama called a press conference, people would just continue watching the olympics, or dinking around on social media, or doing one of the other millions of diversions we have today.

Ike was a fairly big proponent of CR too.

So say you are right and it wasn't a big story, what is your point? You want POTUS to stand up for what's right only when a lot of (white :) ) people care about the issue at hand?

If an honorable person, that actually tries to do what's best for the country party politics aside, ever wins the presidency I think people would pay more attention if there is a press conference. Too much division in today's world. It may not reach the the level of what you're talking about for the reasons you listed, but more than current today.

That goes for both parties. Not specific to any one person.

I'm right about myself, but other than that....you might be right.

A decent pres in office might at least kill off some of the extremism and put out the fire of all the angry facebook people.

But I'm probably wrong about that too.

No. I think that any President should go back to the old way, and stay out of local issues. IF a city is burning to the ground, and IF he can help put out the flames, then he should open his mouth.

I can't comment on something that happened in 1955 but I would definitely want the president to say something if their was obvious rampant racism like there was then.... He needs to bring people together. I don't feel any sympathy towards Rodney King.

You don't really understand 1955. No internet, almost no television, local AM radio stations, local newspapers, and a few magazines.What I was saying is that there was little national media presence, and I don't think anybody much knew about it, other than the locals.

I can't see a President addressing a local issue that wasn't well publicized.
