Lane has conference championships and national as a coordinator and now a conference championship as a HC.

What does Captain Cougar have?

Loose cannons, irreverent, entertaining and frustrating, offensive geniuses.

Fun football.

Both talented, I'd go with (still today) loose cannon who has 122-80 record at two P5 schools. There's a difference between quirky and purposefully childish. I think we'd drive UF crazy to have a "character" closest to Spurrier and high flying offense they so crave.

Lol.

So you'd take the guy with the much larger sample size that has won nothing.

Folks, the Kiffin thing.

This isn't a situation where Fulmer was upset about losing his job, but liked and respected Kiffin. Then, he felt betrayed like all Vol fans by Kiffin leaving Tennessee.

He couldn't stand Kiffin and was repulsed by Kiffin then. He probably popped a cork on a bottle of champagne when Kiffin left.

And it will be over his dead body that Kiffin has anything to do with the University of Tennessee ever again.

I'm not sure of much, but I'll take all bets on this one.
This. The minute Fulmer became the AD even the notion of Kiffin coming back died forever.

The proper analogy would be Leach vs Les Miles. Leach is crazy off the field. Les Miles' luck ran out eventually after doing some of the most boneheaded things you could imagine in critical game time situations. I would take Leach over Miles all day if that was the choice presented.

I want to think that Phil is smarter and more sophisticated, with more skills than when he was HC. But what if he is not? What if he is more bone headed than ever? Then he would go for a bone head hire.

I would expect the new AD to aim higher. Kiffin burned his own bridges. Leach? A week ago 90% would have laughed at that. Only after massive incompetence in the AD did he become attractive.

KIFFIN IS MY FIRST CHOICE. Did you watch his game yesterday? Both he and Chris would do great here. Much better then Gruden.:hi:

Kiffin is a fantastic offensive mind. His downfall is because he was young and full of himself. I hope this doesn't haunt him the rest of his career. He made mistakes, we all do. His just happened to be in the public eye in the NFL and 2 major universities. Saban new how good he was and got him quick. He will very very successful one day in college football.

I'd take leach too but think that ship sailed. Also don't know how he would jive with Fulmer.

Not 90% of informed fans.

He's the best coach out of all the people we've interviewed. He's certainly more qualified than any former Vols who are coaching

Again, one man is standing between us and prosperity. I guess most people don't have an issue with personal preferences getting in the way of the program.

90% wouldn't have supported Leach as HC a week ago? Are those the same 90% that thought we would get Gruden? So you're saying 90% of our fans are unrealistic fools. That seems a little high.

At this stage among realistic possibilities, Leach is at or near the top. Why take a chance on an unproven coordinator when Leach is still out there?

This! The man just wins. That's all. He's a winner, and if Fulmer has already written him off he is a fool.

And who knows who else might have interest? Kiffin isn’t getting an invite. Leach would be entertaining, but I don’t think he’s the best fit to lead UT into the next decade. JMO

For Kiffin not to even get an invite is a joke.. I really hope he has more of a reason then just holding a grudge..and I understand kiffin did this and kiffin did that but if he gives this team the best chance to win and compete again then so be it...he did wonders at FAU and with Crompton..at the end of the day he can flat out coach and I think he would go straight at bama and Saban more than any coach I've heard yet..that should be a prerequisite before hiring any coach.

Who gives us the best chance to end this streak against the tide for the love of god!

Sweet. We're getting Saban

Wow so using this line of thought, one would think the rankings of best coaches in CF are

1. Saban
2. Leach
3. Kiffin

I forgot, how many conference titles does Leach and Kiffin have? Nattys? Bowl wins?

Problem is we dont know for sure if Kiffin wont get a look. He might, you never know. But lets get in the realm of reality about Saban. It really doesnt matter who we get. Its just something we as Vol fans have to accept. Saban has had 7 straight #1 recruiting classes and in those 7 years we have only finished in the top 10 twice. Also factor in the abject coaching failure of Dooley and Butch. Our players are soft, weak, slow and undisciplined. All of that plus the talent disparity between us is just too much to overcome.

The point is, there is no coach we can hire that is going to use our current team and beat a Nick Saban coached Alabama team. They have way too much talent and are too well coached. Saban is not going to be scared of Kiffin nor will any other team in the SEC.

You ask that as if Phil will hire someone who meets those qualifications, when there is only one, the 63 year old former coach of LSU. Miles locked down the talent in Louisiana, but he also drove his fans crazy with ineffectual offense and inexplicably incompetent game management. How many times did Les Miles beat Nick Saban?
