I retract my earlier statement. I think we should wear black: shoes, pants, jerseys, helmets, the jerseys name and # should also be black. Maybe they will not be able to throw away from EB if they can't tell who he is.

I don't mind seeing them once a year, but that's it.

Part of what you're seeing in this thread is why a lot of people were against it. It starts with "it's just for one game" and that happens, and now you have people saying "Wear them for the bowl game". Next is "wear them full time".

The basketball team has black trim, they've never had a black uniform (yet). The football team has had black trim on the away jerseys for about 15 years now.

What I don't get is why you say wearing black would bring so much "excitement". If they aren't excited to play in the CFA Bowl in primetime on NYE against a good VT team already, then black jerseys are the least of anyone's problems. And pray tell me WHY it would bring more exposure? It's the only game on, and they've already worn the black jerseys. Do you think the headline would be "Vols wear black jerseys...uh..again!"

Your argument is extremely weak; I personally don't care one way or the other but this picture you paint is that with the black jerseys they'll be hyped to the moon and everyone will be peeing in their pants with excitement but if we wear orange then everyone will be bored is ridiculous.

First I never said bball wears black, I said they use the color, and more extensively than football.

Second I'm not referring to the players being excited but the fan base. I was at the USC game and for a crowd of only 95k that was one of the loudest entrances I've ever witnessed at a home game and I've seen some big ones in my lifetime (i.e. I've witnessed over half of the 10 largest crowds in Neyland history).

Third I never implied we as fans (or players in your assessment) would be bored. The exposure I'm referring to is people actually seeing them. Yes, I'm sure a lot of the country saw pictures the next day or maybe highlights, but with many other games going on around us, including Oregon/USC, the entire country (recruits included) did not tune into our game. The recruits that were there talked about how "awesome, neat, etc." it was to see those jerseys, now every recruit has the opportunity to see them. Unfortunately kids let fickle things such as uniforms/brand influence where they play collegiate sports (i.e. Josh Selby).

Lastly, I can give two s**ts what we wear as long as we come out and play, and uniforms shouldn't be necessary to do that I agree. But I also think the decision should be up to the players/team and not what any of us think, especially the old-time boosters (not directed at you) who *****ed about the black outline on the numbers in '95, sit on their hands, and guard their silence like they're at a funeral.

WTH, let 'em wear the black if the players want to. It'll make a statement about the death of their dream of ending the season in a New Year's bowl.

I'd like an official bowl bid before we start worrying about jerseys. For all we know the Vols are going to Shreveport.

Just wanted to point out that prior to 1922, our football wore black jerseys.

Not many teams wore color jerseys before the 20's. A lot of the maroons and dark blues were common place back in that day also. Most jerseys in that day did not have numbers on them either. Also, names were not put on the jerseys until the 80's.
