Black activist demands Marvel Studios donate 25% of "Black Panther" profits to...

Nope. Not at all. Its just a few people on twitter thats all guys.

-Huff

I said the people calling people racist for not raving about it are on the fringe. People overrating the movie is a completely different question.

My question is why are y'all so obsessed?

I'm not saying liking the movie is pandering. I'm saying 97% of all published critics liking it is pandering. There is no way on God's green earth they were all holding this decent/good movie to the same standards as other movies in its same genera.

You agreed ITOT that its overall production quality is as good as anything else not named Dark Knight....now it's just "decent/good"?

Hey man I'm not the one thread bouncing to defend BP and the morons who act like its a scifi-action-nonfiction-docudrama..

Not having seen the movie, it's hard to imagine a Marvel Universe movie that completely sucks.

Iron Man 3 being the outlier here.

Idiots ranted against the new Star Wars when they introduced John Boyega into the line. Though, his character still leaves a lot to be desired in terms of development.

But to the point that idiots are going to be idiots. Why even give them the time of day or retort to every ignorant mouthbreather making comments against Black Panther? (pointed at you Huff)

Why? It doesn't mean they gave it a 9.7/10 on average, it means 97% of reviews were positive. What's that, 6+ out of 10? Nearly everyone I know liked it, nearly everyone on this board that's seen it liked it. You liked it.

Go look at how many of those critics called it the greatest movie of all time and get back to me. And yes, "it has a high rating because of racism in favor of black people" and "it has a low rating because of racism against black people" are the same thing, and I've seen much more of the former than the latter on this board.

There's more to a good movie than production quality. Maybe what we're thinking as "production quality" isn't the same thing? Cinematography, lighting, sound, set design all top notch. Acting, very good mostly. Writing, not so great. The plot was subpar. The pace was excruciating to me. Not as much action as a movie of its genera ought to have.

All you have to do is put the word black in the title and it’s considered targeting because black people want to see it?

Dumb

You gave it a 7-7.5. That means your review was positive, just like the 97%. Are you pandering?

I think it’s because people are tired of being labeled of something that they are not. You can’t disagree with people anymore without being labeled as a racist or homophobe, or xenopobe or anything else. Can’t you just say “I don’t like this movie, book, tv show, play” and not be placed in a category?

Who on this site is placing someone in a category for disliking the movie? The only categorization I've seen is that critics who like it are "pandering."

Jfc dude. You're being willfully obtuse. There are better movies that have done worse with critics. Those critics who would vote unfavorably for a better movie, but give this one glowing reviews are the ones pandering. Mathematically, there has to be a pretty good sample of such pandering reviewers.

If 97% of people think Black Panther is a 7, and 92% think Shawshank is a 9 and a few didn't like it, I wouldn't necessarily say that Black Panther did "better" with critics. It could simply be less polarizing and have a broader base of appeal.

Black Panther's average rating, based on the number given to it rather than the percentage of people who like it, is an 8.2. Wizard of Oz and Citizen Kane have 9.4s. Mad Max: Fury Road also has 97% positive reviews, with an 8.6 rating. Also pandering?

We're talking about movie critics here, not the audience. The broad base of appeal isn't a factor.

It absolutely is. It could appeal to a higher percentage of critics, while a better movie could appeal to a slightly smaller percentage but much more strongly. They're two different metrics.

I didn’t say this site. It’s more of a generalization than anything. Am I really that wrong?

So your stance is that a comic book movie about a guy in tights who has super strength and razor sharp claws is more appealing overall to movie critics than shawshank. Critics who are known for wearing scarves and artsy horn rimmed glasses while basking in the wondrous aroma of their own farts. I'm certainly skeptical of that claim.

People like action movies. There usually isn’t much to hate, which is really what the Tomatometer is about. Like I said, Mad Max is above Shawshank too. Pandering?

I’d suggest looking at average critic rating rather than Tomatometer, and that way people don’t need to be outraged about how that huge group of zero people is calling it the greatest movie ever.

People had a shootout outside the theater with a heavy BP is the greatest movie ever crowd in attendance here in Orlando. Argument over selling cell phones because that is apparently something that transpires in theater parking lots with hard core BP fans.

Probably finally found out Wakanda isn't real.
