BJ Coleman (Merged)

Honestly, i think crompton is this coaching staff's favorite and for some reason they think they can turn him around from interceptions and goalline fumbles to heath shuler or something....

not sure why, cause there really shouldnt be much to be high on crompton as this point, but the staff seems dead set on giving him a 180 i guess

I absolutely agree. I think Kiffin knew he was going with Crompton before spring practice even started. I think he placed all confidence in his ability to coach rather than even trying to objectively evaluate talent.

When I looked, there's only 1 QB in rivals top 10 pro QB's that is considering UT and he's about as far geographically as you can get in the continental U.S.

...and he doesn't really care. Scroggins will be in the top 10 as well.

No...

Who cares? The current Heisman winner wouldn't have fit in your criteria either but we would all take him in a sec

If Coleman was clearly the better QB, no way Kiffin would not play him just so he could bring in a top notch QB. Why would Kiffin care what the QB recruits thought if he knew Coleman was that good and he could start him the next 3 years. I am just not buying it.

Quote:
“I believe the reason I wasn’t moved up is because it would hurt them in recruiting if they name a sophomore as their starter,” Coleman said. “Some of the high school guys they’re recruiting might not want to go where they think they’ll have to sit for a couple of years.

It makes a lot of sense if the coaches don't think Coleman will be an exceptional QB. Coleman had very good scrimmage numbers--I don't care who he was playing against--and I have to wonder why he didn't get some time (more time--did he ever?) with the first-team offense, given Crompton's stuggles last year. In any case, if Coleman doesn't think he was getting a fair shake--and it appears that view as some if not a lot of credibility--then I applaud him for this decision. No player is obligated to sit on the bench and be a "team" guy if he wants to play, thinks he can play, thinks he should be playing. You go somewhere else and try to play. Good luck to the kid.

just listened to the interview again, and I am dumbfounded, again. It is obvious it had become all about him. God forbid he have to wait more than 1 year to start, and god forbid the coaches tell him to be patient, he would get his shot. He thought he was ready LAST YEAR, and he said he was frustrated because it was the same things that were being said this year.

For everyone that wants to blame Kiffin, maybe the blame should partially be put on the BJ fans that kept telling him how great he was and how he should have been the man last year. It was obviously something he and his dad talked about because he said as much. He mentioned that they didn't understand what was going on, especially with all the people that kept telling him he should have been starting last year.

He bought into the hype that comes with being a hometown hero and local favorite.

I believe David Climer was spot on with this quote.

Quote:
But it doesn't help to talk like Peyton Manning if you play like C.J. Leak. SEC games are not won with sound bytes. Neither the deposed coaching staff nor the one that replaced it thought Coleman was up to the task.

And that's the bottom line.

Exactly.

The interview was SO telling about what really happened. It was like someone handed him a shovel and he just kept on digging his own grave. The guy is a whinner and a quitter and we don't need either on this team.

After hearing BJ's phone interview, its clear to me that he is was one A$$-SORE, crybaby. To me, he loathed our new coaching staff which in and of itself explains why Kiffin didn't give BJ much credit. He clearly did not integrate into the the new system. He clearly is not mature enough to play at this level. Any school that would hear this interview will think twice before extending a scholarship. His attitude in the interview was deplorable and took place before he even told the coaching staff.

BJ, you are no Volunteer and you never were.

But Rivals doesn't even have Scroggins ranked. Its early in the game, and the Rivals rankings are obviously still a WIP. So, I wouldn't get my panties all up in a bunch.

I haven't heard the interview yet or anything like that, but I am shocked by all this. I thought BJ played the best by far in the spring game. Also, going on last year's performance I think Crompton and Stevens are the worst two UT quarterbacks I have seen in the past 15 years. I just can't imagine why they won't give BJ a shot.

4 out of the top 10 have already committed, and most of the others have named leaders.

That's the only true statement that you have made. We have no idea what went on behind the scenes. If it really did seem like he wasn't given a fair shot, he has the right to complain.
