BJ Coleman (Merged)

If, Kiffin didn't meet with BJ both times he was suppose to meet with him. Kiffin made a huge mistage. I am sure several of you will bash me in this thread. But, I still have no confidence in Crompton. I see him costing us ball games next year. I feel BJ had the tools to manage the offense good enough to win most games for us given a good defensive performance.

Here's a creative new thread!

I just listened to BJ's full audio interview on the Times Free Press. Ouch. The kid is pretty bitter.

I think the full article...that is finally up tells alot. They may have the full audio up also now though. Hopefully, in the long run this will prove good for BJ and UT.
That may be wishful thinking....but I can hope that UT gets a star recruit and BJ lands somewhere he gets to play. He is a great kid, a hard worker and will make someone...probably D2 now a great QB.

Bj was a sacrificial lamb. With our starter being a senior and our back up being a limited experienced junior it will be easy to sell to 2 top Qb's for 2010. I think we land Heaps and another top Qb, possibly Scroggins.

Kiffins thinking long term. Chase off good players and bring in GREAT ones. (Heaps, Hendrix, Scroggins, etc.)

thinking long term won't do him any good this year interms of the qb position. Coming from an opposing fan, whenever I saw coleman play, he looked like the least of the 3 to make big mistakes. as a poster above me said, he could probably manage games ok, something im not so sure crompton or stephens can do.

he made the least amount of mistakes because he played the least...

He played in one game and threw a pick six. It appears that we have 3 qbs that are basically equal. We chased away the youngest of the three to be able to attract qbs that are far better than any on the current roster. It's that simple. I liked BJ, but it's not like we are losing Peyton Manning. He was definitely not significantly better than Stephens or Crompton.

From Times Free Press said:
An Academic All-SEC performer, Coleman has more than 80 credit hours and is on schedule to graduate in three years. He was chosen as the ambassador to represent UT at the NCAA’s student-athlete leadership conference in Orlando in May.

“If I’m the best leader and the most talented guy who gives you the best shot at winning, why am I not named the starter?” Coleman asked. “I’ve had so many players come up to me and tell me I’m their guy, I’m the one to lead this team, and I even told the coaches if they would just give me the keys I would get us where we need to be.

“But it never seemed like the coaches felt the same. That frustrated me for a while, but I’m at full peace with it now.”

.

Looks like he didn't put them under the bus, he pulled the pavement up and rolled them in it.

On the other hand, with the Times being his hometown newspaper, what do you expect? I'm on the outside looking in but it seems that the interviewer just basically laid the questions out for the right answers.

I love this part. Maybe BJ wasn't given a fair shake after all!

“It’s been frustrating to hear Coach Kiffin talk about how the quarterbacks have struggled so much this spring when I knew I didn’t. It seemed like, for Coach Kiffin, the day was based on how Jonathan does.”

Yeah, I got that vibe as well. I think there are also a few things that BJ didn't want the public to hear on the mp3.

I went back and listened to it again, it sounded like he really let his frustrations out with that interview.

I expect you are right on this. Emotional day for him....talks to his hometown paper. The interviewer asks lots of questions at a time that BJ is talkative and again emotional....and I am sure he talked alittle more than he would have normally. Sorry it all happened. This was a tough day for sure.....but Go Vols! And good luck BJ!

It's looking more and more like Kiffin's career at UT is going to come down to whether or not he can recruit a top QB next season to run this season. I don't think it's possible to win in the SEC without a top QB running your offense. It's too competitive a conference.

Right now of the top 10 pro style QB's on rivals only 1 is considering UT. That is Jake Heaps from Washington, IMO he's likely to end up going someplace closer to home. This is going to be a real problem. :twocents:

Yeah, I think Heaps is who CLK really wants to get.

If Coleman doesn't think he was treated fairly by the coaching staff why shouldn't he come out and say it? He's just being honest about his feelings and why he left. Obviously he wasn't happy and he's explaining why. From what he described, can anyone blame him for leaving?
