BJ Coleman (Merged)

Even if Kiffin gets Heaps (not many other uncommitted elite QBs left for the shallow 2010 class), Kiffin may not last to see Heaps' sophomore year. Our SEC schedule (not to mention Oregon coming to town) in 2010 is BRUTAL, even for an experienced SEC-level signal caller.

2009 will be a rebuilding year, but if there is not significant progress in 2010, bye bye Lane. Also, it's no guarantee that Kiffin will even sign a top-flight QB this year. If that is the case, then our rebuilding will continue for several years because we'll have a new coach. Gruden in 2010!!!

Worst post of 2009.

Like Heaps, Hendrix and Scroggins. +1 on dumbest post.

Kiffin is going to bring the run game back into the SEC big time...no greatness is needed at the QB position in his game plan.

Not this year.

But I would be willing to wager a large sum of money that Kiffin lands a top flight QB in the '10 class. If anyone is interested in taking this bet, please do the following:
1) Toss out some initial parameters for what qualifies as "top flight." I will either accept parameters or tweak them and shoot them back over for your review. I'm sure that we can come to an agreed-upon definition without too much haggling.
2) Name your price

That's it. I look forward to any and all offers.

No it's not. Who thought Kentucky's hoops coach would be gone so soon?

In the SEC, it's all about winning and winning now. My guess is Kiffin will get a one-year grace period (losing season or 6-6 would probably be okay to most), after which he will be held to the same standard as any other head coach of a top SEC team. With the salary he and the assistant coaches are pulling in the aggregate, the program should expect to see significant improvement by year 2. My point is that Kiffin is making a risky bet that he will pull in "his" QB in this class. If he doesn't get a top QB this year, one of the requisite pieces for his rebuilding projection will be missing at least until 2011, at which point it might be a moot point.

Sounds like CaliVol might want to take my bet.

Dumbest post ever, +2

It really depends on the replacement coach, doesn't it? I'm not saying it will happen, but if a guy like Gruden were available in 2 years and little improvement is evident under the current regime, who knows?

...figuring out how to use the "ignore user" feature.

I just really don't understand how he won't be the guy?? And this is the proof why I'm not a coach.....but i totally agree, I would much rather have a guy like BJ who is a leader and smart, than a brickhead who has a slightly better arm (and that is really debatable).
I'd rather have BJ too but the slightly better arm is a understatement and not debatable. I've been to some of the practices and most the scrimmages and of course watched the Vandy game last year and he just doesnt have that zip on the ball. He floats alot of passes and cant pass into small windows. I would rather have a guy who knows the offense better but I was at no point anywhere near sold on Coleman.

Well if anyone wants to read....the full article on BJ is now up on the Chattanooga Times site. It is pretty clear that the staff new exactly that BJ was leaving. I am not sure why the denials. He even met with Hamilton....just read for yourself.

Losing coleman is no big deal---he wouldn't start anyway. UT can bring in a big time QB in the next recruiting class. All the top QBs will want to play in this offense!!!

yes, if accurate, it's not very flattering

and will probably be breaking in a new starter at qb behind what looks to be a thin and inexperienced OL

If, Kiffin didn't meet with BJ both times he was suppose to meet with him. Kiffin made a huge mistage. I am sure several of you will bash me in this thread. But, I still have no confidence in Crompton. I see him costing us ball games next year. I feel BJ had the tools to manage the offense good enough to win most games for us given a good defensive performance.

I bet he transfers to UTC so he can play this year. Heard some hints of Duke but I doubt he will burn a year of eligibilty.

I just listened to BJ's full audio interview on the Times Free Press. Ouch. The kid is pretty bitter.

I agree....

If BJ thinks he didn't get a fair chance
I respect his decision to go for what he thinks is better for him
he will still have atleast 2 years to start for an ACC team if he goes there

Good luck BJ
