BJ Coleman (Merged)

Yes, actually. Sorry to tell you, but those who have spoken to players have said most of the team was rooting for BJ to win the job.

1. And others who have spoken to players have said most of the team believed that Crompton was much better than the other two.
2. This team is behind Kiffin far more than they are behind Coleman, so it's a moot point anyway.
3. If he would not have played and we told him he would not have played, where's the problem? He left of his own accord. That has absolutely nothing to do with whether our team values upstanding citizens. He chose to leave.

The sad thing is that we are saying goodbye to upstanding citizens like BJ Coleman and possibly allowing a player that threatened to kill his teacher on the team.

(I've got some venting to do today.)

Sab, I don't remember if it was a poll or just a question, but I asked a while back if people would rather have a team of upstanding individuals or a championship...I was disappointed in the results...

What players? How many players? Did they take a poll?

It doesn't help anyone including BJ to post unsubstantiated hearsay based generalizations about the opinions of anonymous players.

I remember hearing that most players believed that Crompton was easily the best this spring. But remember that I heard that FROM someone presumably on the inside, and am not actually on the inside myself. I am 100% sure I heard it though.

I just wondered if the lockroom is separated like it was last year (based on the Arian Foster article). Is the locker room in cliques and some are behind one qb and the rest of the offense behind another qb? I justy hope that the receivers are not going to try as hard just because "their qb" isnt in the game..They better start shooting cortizone in NS's wrist

1. I'm not talking about which one was better. I agree that Crompton was the better QB in the spring.
2. I certainly hope so.
3. You can see it that way if you want. I see it as the coaches ran him off.

Personally, I think there is no way that happens under Kiffin. But I don't pretend to know what is currently going on in our locker room.

Man, this is like some covert ops, Government cover up stuff. Players quitting, and Staff not knowing anything about it? Looks like some good ol' SPRING CLEANING by CLK. Sawtelle and Coleman in one day? I heard there would be others that followed Morley, Creer, Abrams-Ward etc, I guess we use these Schollies to get acouple of QB's, OL (definitely OL), TE, but we need a couple ATH also. That we can plug in were we need them. We have to let this go, and move on. One monkey don't stop no show!!! Let's get it together. GO VOLS !!!!!!

Nobody is arguing that he chose to leave, I believe the point was that the majority of the players on the team saw him as their leader and wanted him to have an active roll. Every player I know has said this exact same thing... even Eric Berry said his freshmen year in an interview that BJ was by far the leader of the freshmen class even though he was redshirting he made sure everyone was held accountable

I said "better." I meant "more deserving of the starting job." If the team thought Crompton deserved it more, they will have no problem with him becoming the starter.

This is what I've heard as well. My point is, I hope it doesn't have an adverse effect on the players. Most likely it won't. The guys that want to be here will be here. It certainly doesn't help with team chemistry though.

FTR, I believe that if BJ had come close to establishing himself as the clear leader... he'd have been made the starter.

I have said consistently that it wouldn't be good enough for him to be equal or just a little better. Starting him would make no sense unless he had proven beyond any doubt that he was the QB of the present and future.

You think they told him to get out of Knoxville so they could have a scholarship? Or do you think they just told him he wouldn't be playing much? Most would go with the latter, and that is not running someone off. That is honesty. The coaches have no responsibility to give a player false hopes just because he's "a nice guy."

Well Coleman was 2nd string not third. Plus he will end up another Mitch Mustang and Brent Shaefer waisting their career away. Unless Coleman goes to a big name school and has a huge senior year he will end up a nobody and therefore gives up any chance of going to the NFL.

Coleman is the loser in this situation. See it every year when they do this. Usualy never works out good especialy when they have so few years left.

It's got to be: TEAM FIRST mentality. Yes, this could cause a rift, but the Staff will get the team together to talk through this. I feel this will push JC and NS to up their game. Rozier may come in and shake things up too. We definitely will have additional Schollies to offer next year. CLK can fill those with the players he feels fit his scheme. We are all shoked, but everything happens for a reason.

I don't think it's a lack of knowledge, just hotheadedness. But I won't go all Dr. Phil here.

I shall rephrase.

I have every bit of confidence that Lane Kiffin and his staff are doing everything in their power to produce a team that is capable of winning every game they play.

I also believe that CLK would not "run a player off" if he felt that said player was an asset to the team.

It is foolish to believe, without any evidence to the contrary, that Kiffin is encouraging people to leave the team due to personal bias or any other reason other than they are not pulling in the direction he is headed.

The 2010 QB recruits aren't as bad as everyone is trying to say. They haven't even played their senior years yet! Everyone needs to take a chill pill.

And the "Crompton is starting to attract recruits" argument is just retarded.

Coleman needs to go somewhere like Richmond or Delaware. He'd probably start and play for championships... and have his best shot at being drafted.

I agree with you. :hi:

We could only take 29 this year regardless of players quitting. 4 early enrollees will count back to the '09 class and 25 max per year.
