It is hard to swallow.........BUTT, Vanderbilt currently has the better team. We can play the blame game all we want...........but that is a better team than UT.
In the long run looking back at the season, I am more upset in giving Bammer and Oklahoma wins in games we wudda, shudda, cudda come out on top.
Either way, a lot of work to do in this topsy tervy NIL driven NFL Minor League we love. Go Vols!!

Here is the troubling thing I have taken from this season. We finished last year with a better roster than Vandy. (except at QB) By game time they are a good bit better than we are. So it seems they "bought" more and better NIL'ers than we did. This is unacceptable in my humble opinion. It seems to me most teams do a better job evaluating needs and NIL'ers than we do. It also seems to me we don't have very good success improving players during the season. (granted there are exceptions to this, i.e. Redmon) I think and hope we really rethink and adjust our staff moving forward.

Heuple and his staff have not been very good at half time adjustments. Vandy realized at the half they could move the ball anyway they wanted to so just take their time scoring and getting a couple of stops on D and it was over. Worked great.
until the last possession, Vandy averaged 8.9 YPC. There was no reason to throw the ball. That was one halftime adjustment. The RPO game was wide open after that.

No. Tennessee has the better players. Better recruit classes. Better facilities. Bigger budget. Better fan base. Better home field advantage. Better history. Et al.

But vandy actually has coaches that are not inept in their own professions. And that leads to wins above all the other things TN is better at.

Busch league coaches is what TN has. And it’s time to show them all the door.

Glass is half full or half empty view:

Half full: we should be a minimum of 10-2, could be 11-1. We should have beat UGA and Oklahoma at home. The Bama game was closer than the score, we play up to our abilities and we could have won. I’m going to count Vandy as a loss as this is their best team in history and they were motivated.

Glass half empty:

We could have easily lost 2 more SEC games, and be looking at a 6-6 season, barely bowl eligible.

The bottom line is this team/program/ coaching does not have the mindset that they will win unless they are playing an obvious outmatched team. Case in point, UGA. UGA could have easily lost a few more games this year however Kirby has them believing they are going to win every game no matter the circumstances. The sad part is that this should have been a down year for UGA as this is one of Kirby’s worst defensive teams, instead they are playing for another SEC championship and another national title.

Your right. Just look at the Vols win-loss record. 8-4 8 wins against teams with a below .500 record. The 4 we lost to all with 10 wins.

On paper we have the much more talented team, but what matters is results. Vanderbilt played fundamentally sound football and dominated our more talented team. How often do you watch one of our games and actually think to yourselves that we played fundamentally sound football? Very rarely. That’s on the coaches. Either they are recruiting players that are incapable of responding to proper coaching or the coaches aren’t properly coaching them up. Teams with less talent that are properly coached can be successful. Teams with talent that aren’t properly coached can be disappointing. Teams with talent that are properly coached can win titles. I want to see us in that last category.

TN got outcoached and outplayed at home by Vandy. It’s on the coaches as much as the players.
Banks needs to go. Martinez too.
Dline and LBs were constantly out of position and leaving wide open running lanes. Pathetic performance at all three levels.

Offensively, scored 3 points in the second half. At home. In a game that matters. 3 points against Vandy.

Heupel needs to fix this mess or leave.
If he wants to be a championship level coach he is going to have to make serious changes on this staff.
