Village Tavern or Flemings @ 101 & 103 Summit Blvd. Are pricey but I haven't had a better steak.

They have put up a lot of money to improve downtown and other parts of bham but its still crappy parking and crime depending on which block you're on.

the only use for Birmingham is the dumping of human waste. Keep moving. Nothing to do or see there.

Lot's of BBQ choices - I'm not a huge fan of Dreamland but people like it. Jim n Nick's is good and has a large menu.

Fine dining includes Bottega, Hot&Hot, Highlands.

Do di Yo's is a nice upscale greek restaurant.

Michaels is a pretty traditional steakhouse that is a local joint (in the Aloft hotel). Flemings (already mentioned is good).

Funny, and I share the same general sentiment for the state, but I've been wanting to play at the RTJ trail for a while :)

Wouldn't mind having a nice steak, don't mind spending some money for a good meal. Something eclectic might be nice too.

For eclectic I'd err towards Bottega or Hot & Hot over Flemings which is good but a pretty standard steak place.

May want to check their menus though since neither is a steak place per se. Read some reviews to see if they fit the bill.

Highlands is top notch but may be a bit formal.

a group of my friends did the RTJ guys golf weekend and played Hampton Cove. While the courses are beautiful and challenging we didnt care for it for a guys weekend. Had to stay in hotel and fend for ourself for food in restaurants. We'd rather spend our non golfing time howling at the moon letting others cook for us and not taking the risk in driving our cars.

Oh, and sans 1983 and 1985, I've never had a good time in Birmingham thus my comment.

I personally wouldn't go to Flemings. It's good but it's a chain. Do something local.

However for a happy hour Flemings is usually fantastic. They have some killer deals in Newport beach.

That's kinda where I was going with my post - nothing wrong with Flemings but it's not unique to Birmingham.

Well...survived three days of golf in the Alabama summer heat. All three RTJ courses were great, but the Ross Bridge course was phenomenal. We all agreed that we would be fine playing it for three days straight, next time around.

We really enjoyed Dreamland and tried about everything on the menu, including the banana pudding. We didn't make it into downtown B'ham for dinner, but Brock's at the Renaissance served a fantastic meal. We didn't take the plunge, but they had a 38 ounce prime ribeye and a Wagyu strip as a daily special (pricey, of course).

Thanks for the advice. I'd like to catch some of the other recommended restaurants next time around.

Ross Bridge is a sweet set up. I do love the finishing hole on the Ridge course at Oxmoor Valley though.

We definitely preferred the Ridge course to the Valley. Tough 3-putt from the right fringe to a left hole location for a bogey on the last for me :)
