I don't know what to believe. We are hearing from some that he and Kiffin have had contact and are rumored to have met face-to-face when he was in Florida, but Gonzales comes out and pretty much says he will be with the Gators next year.

I think Kiffin goes after him, but I don't see Gonzales leaving the Gators for the same position with UT - even if it is a little more money.

I am still not sold on Gonzales getting big money. He does seems to be a pretty good position coach. But his recruiting isn't all it's being built up to be on this board. He did land Harvin. But if you take his name away it is mostly FL kids and UM has alot to do with that. Hell, it's FL they will always be able to recruit FL kids.

I personally think there are alot of other big time coaches out there that might listen if you threw the kind of money we threw at Garner.

It's Florida...which is why it would be good to get him. Yes UF mostly recruits itself, and adding another crystal ball helps.

But what you're missing is he has developed relationships with coaches, and schools down there that would be very beneficial to our program.

Some kids will go to school just for the name...others will go to a particular school because they know who's recruiting them, or are friends with someone he has recruited in the past...

Same thing was said about Drayton. And I don't think he has lived up to that hype. I do think Gonzales is better than Drayton. But not by as much as everyone is thinking on here.

I am sure Kiffin is going to make a run at someone who was coaching in that game. Everything points to Gonzales. He understands what he wants his staff to look like. If he wants Gonzales I am all for it. I am just saying IMO their are bigger fish out there.

there are reports that he has privately said he will not be coming, but reports are that CLK is going to still pursue him and make him say no again.

Gonzales' deep ties inside the top Florida high schools is worth a lot of coin.

Ed Orgeron is HUGE on having the "hot spots" covered when it comes to recruiting. Look at how CLK and the staff made a huge push for RG...GA is a hotbed for talent. So is FL, and Billy Gonzales is a big name in the Florida recruiting scene.

Are their bigger names out there...sure. Not going to argue with you about that.

But he would fit in greatly with what CLK, and Coach O are looking to do, which is have a guy in each recruiting hotspot that can get these kids to Knoxville.

I agree about your "Hot spots" comment. And there are none bigger than FL. But we still have to get Bama, Tidwater/DC, Georgia areas covered as well.

You are probably right. To me though it just doesn't feel like that big of a hire. Seems like we have already tried to hire FL guys in the past and you really don't get as much out of it as you may think you will. Especially with the way Miami and FSU are bouncing back in recruiting.

We HAVE to be able to cover most of those areas well. And like you said with Miami seeming to be back from their hiatus...it's even more important to be able to go into FL with someone familiar to the area.

I'll be interested to see how it pans out...but we at least can rest assured knowing CLK and his staff have a plan.

Rivals says that CLK will put the full court press on Gonzo and make him say no. this one is not over.

I'd say Gonzo will be met with a full onslaught of Monte, CLK, Orgeron, and Chaney.

The swarm is on it's way Gonzo...just give in now.
