At least the first two names would definitely listen if we call them for HC job and would be a good hire too (not Urban Meyer great but definitely good hires) .. Adam Gase is a good name too but not sure how he would do in college but id the dude is interested in OC job at Alabama, he would love being HC at TN !!

My pick would be Bill O' Brien but would be happy with Doug too .. but oh wait, we havent fired corn bread yet and Phat Foolmer will never hire anyone of caliber here ..

I would be happy if we didn't hire any of these dudes. They all seem extremely uninspiring, and aside from O'Brien (who was alright at Penn State and shepherded them through a probationary period), I just don't see how they come here and win on the recruiting trail.

Oh, you were terrible in the pros? Man, that makes me really want to come play for you...

I think Gase or Marrone would be Callahan to Nebraska 2.0. O’Brien might be able to produce a 9 win team year in and out.
Marrone would be decent. I personally feel O’Brien would be a great coach here. A Gase hire would basically mark the end of the program.

You could throw Spurrier in there, too. But, Kiffin was really young when he got his NFL head coaching shot. He was clearly not mature enough for the moment. That doesn't apply here. Holtz had been a very successful collegiate had coach before getting the Jets gig, when he was also pretty young. Spurrier, had much more collegiate success before making the move to and from the NFL. Carroll was in the NFL for a long time, but had never been a college head coach.

Also, Carroll and Kiffin are exciting, upbeat, big personality guys. None of O'Brien, Gase or Marrone are that. Gase has never been a college head coach - to my knowledge.

Bottom line, none of these three coaches are a very good comparison to the list of losers that people want at UT right now.

I think Gase like Pruitt needs to be a Cord. and not a HC. Read that O'Brien is in the running for the OC job at Bama?

You suppose our guys will ask Peyton for input on any pro?

It is funny how people don’t know Pete Carroll was the HC of the Jets & Patriots before becoming USC’s HC. Or how Lane Kiffin coached under Carroll and became the HC of the Raiders before coming to Tennessee. Hell the Ole Ball Coach Spurrier and the mighty Saban sucked as NFL coaches. The other 2 that come to mind are Dennis Erickson that took over the Canes after Jimmy Johnson and won 2 NC’s before crumbling in Seattle. Then Butch Davis that replaced Erickson at The U who failed badly with the Browns.

Again, I just don't think these are all apt comparisons. Spurrier and Saban won national titles before going to the pros. They were always good college coaches.
