Bill King from Rivals

May have already been said but BK has had a case of the A$$e$ since before PF was let go. There was once a time that BK and Bob Bell had an open door to all that was VOL but those days faded and he suddenly started liking the Gators and at every turn has been negative as it relates to Tennessee. I wouldn't put much into what he says anymore. For that matter he hasn't been relevant since he and BB where on 1510 in the early 90's. His days are long behind him, after all the station he is on now (560) has about 5 watts of power.

Edit: I will say in the 90's he knew everything about every kid in the nation from memory. It could be a kid from the smallest town you have never heard of and he would know what was going on there. Those days are gone. He doesn't know anything that someone else doesn't put online. His pipeline has gone.

All of this over King? I'm not sure if everyone realizes it or not, but the guy has been canclled on 3 or 4 diffrent stations due to ratings... He was on some AM station the last time I heard him that I think he partly owned.. You could barely make it out.. I think he also owns his own mini website (could be wrong about that though)...

I'm sure he hate the vols now since 104.5 carries them... I know he used to bad mouth Plaster and crew... I imagine he is really miffed now..

I don't think Bill was ever breast fed... I doubt he's ever had a live nipple in his life.

You could make the same argument about coaching for us during the time we've lagged behind.

that is true. if everything is as it should be, we recruit just below those top 4 and then we have to out coach them to compete for the championship.. we cant consistently recruit with them UNLESS they screw up a coaching hires and programs fall off.

So he just basically spit on UT and said that CDD would NEVER be able to out recruit the top coaches from the SEC... He said "maybe they make it in the top 25, but I doubt it".... This dude just crawled under my skin. What do yall think?
Barely crawl in the top 25? We already 16th who the heck is this joke? prolly workin wit espn to do all they can to kill all of ut athletics they don't seem like experts to me they seem like a bunch of over paid morons anyone else agree? Lol

IMO he likes the sound of his own voice too much. He was a big Brian Kelly guy after Phil got canned. I was too but I got over it. Just another radio gas bag.

Bill does a daily sirius xm show called rivals radio, has been for six years. He is a Tennessee graduate, and an admitted Tennessee fan. He lives in brentwood, tn
and has 7 children.

He is sometimes a little tough on the vols, but we have sucked pretty bad the past few years. I listen to his show almost daily, pisses me of sometimes to though.

Spot on. I wasted 30 minutes reading this thread, and by far the most ridiculous thing is the notion that anyone working for Rivals could evaluate talent as well as CDD. If they could, they would be coaching. And no way Nick Saban keeps someone on his staff that can't spot a talent.

nice post and your final sentence says it all. On to the next thread.

Why do you find what he said so apalling? What evidence do you have to support a line of thinking where Dooley COULD outrecruit the top coaches in the SEC? Did he do it last year? Is he going to do it this year? I just don't see where your indignation is coming from when a guy looks at the concrete facts, and then draws what most would consider a pretty reasonable conclusion. It may not be what you want to hear, but sometimes reality just sucks. Most non-partisan people aren't going to look at our situation from a "UT's glass is half full" point of view that many of the hardcore fans who frequent these forums do.
--------------------------------

UT just went 18-20....The worst 3-year run the Vols have had since the late 70s.

When Dooley starts to win 8-9 games, then the critics can evaluate the absence of 5-stars.

I know at the very least as much as you. And I agree that isn't much.

So how many years do you give him to restore us to the success of 2005 and prior? Fulmer got 2 or 3 years. Why give Dooley longer? What 10 years? All the latest successful SEC coaches did it in 3 years. And that is about how long the fans will tolerate this level of success.

You apparently do not know what "crap" is. By the way it is the name of the guy that invented the toilet.

The two aren't comparable. Fulmer technically had 19 years. After 3 seasons with less than 8 wins, for a top program, it was clearly time for a change. You give CDD at least that. He's already outrecruiting Fulmers last two seasons. He's been at the helm for just over a year. Heaven forbid he doesn't have a winning season his first season with a depleted roster.

You sound like one of the lunatics from the football forum who clearly does not understand recruiting, or coaching for that matter. If you don't win, you freak out.

Played against Jim Everett if I'm not mistaken.

Nice. That cracked me up.
Jim Everett got a few backhands, forehands, & aces to Jim Rome's head that match.
I'll never forget that one. The Nolan Ryan/Robin Ventura beatdown was a classic too.
King eats crow all day Wednesday, btw.

Sure, if some miracle occurs and we shoot up in to the Top 5 on Wednesday, I'll be more than happy to admit to you that I was wrong. However, I'm 100% confident that in 3 days I'll still be right. Do you have any idea how far behind Bama, LSU, Auburn and UGA we are right now? The only team we're still even remotely close with is UF but is highly unlikely we finish ahead of the either. We will however probably pass Ole Miss before all is said and done. The issue at hand was whether or not DD could recruit as good or better than the top coaches in the SEC, and after one full class the answer is a resounding "no".

I thought you bleed orange?

Comparing Alabama with Tennessee in recruiting right now is a joke. Alabama is very established, stable, and has had Saban there for 4+ years now. Saban has been building relationships with these players for years.

Dooley has been here with his whole staff for one recruiting year now. He went 6-7, inherited low numbers and talent, and will still pull in a top 12 recruiting class. He hasn't had time to build up relationships with '11 players, but has with the '12 players. Next year will be a true measuring stick of CDD and company.

I am very excited to see what CCS can do next year.
Nothing but up from here, boys... and girls.

Where was Auburn 2 years ago compared to Bama?? Where are they today?

Your argument is flawed?

Tennessee has always recruited well. No reason to think we will not now. Challenges, sure, but I feel our administration gives our coaches the best chance possible to succeed. With the money invested no reason to think it will not happen.

Also, a thought I had was about overall human population increasing. With an increase in the amount of new humans it should equate into a greater amount a SEC level players. Point being more players to go around for everyone.

This could, in time, give TN more home-state recruits simply because there are more breeding couples in the state.

His orange is most definitely a different shade compared to the rest of ours! I can't speak for the rest of y'all, but when someone predicts MY team to fall 10+ spots behind where we currently sit, imma get angry!! I say we sit back and let the staff and CDD do the talking for us... I can't wait!! Popcorn anyone?

I just moved from Mobile, AL to middle Tennesse & we had Finenaum there. I couldn't listen to him. I know he went to UT but he lives in B'ham & is the biggest Bammer homer. Never heard of King and if he is a uf & Bammer homer too, why are they hatin on UT so much?

You can't ever complain about a top 10 class at Tennessee if you fill the right needs. If UT finishes with a top 10 class, no one can complain about the effort/job of this staff.

I just wonder how they could possibly come to that conclusion, when Dooley's first full class hasn't even been inked yet? We have the money and facilities, we'll see in the coming years if we have the right coach. I think we do.

Because odds are if a recruiter fails to land a top-5 class in his first full class, he won't land a top-5 class at that program during his tenure.
