Bill King from Rivals

I swear people who say stars don't matter are just using that as a coping mechanism to feel better about their team signing a sorry class. Look at the recruiting numbers over the past 10 years and then look at the actual results on the field. While the two aren't necessarily cast in iron together, they pretty much march to the beat of the same drum. If you recruit better that your competition, you'll typically beat them on the field as well.

No. You and others are confusing star rating and recruiting rankings with recruiting and having talent. Nobody here is saying that you don't have to recruit and have talent. What is being said though is that you don't have to outrecruit the rest of the league (nobody is going to do that as I have already pointed out). You just have to recruit with your peers and your shot will come.

Question for you or others - King says that CDD and staff can't recruit with the rest of the SEC. Do you feel that Kiffin and staff showed they could in a short amount of time here?

Didn't Rivals run a story a few months ago about how Dooley was doing a terrible job recruiting, and didn't appear to be in on any big-time prospects?

Whatchya' think?

--King on UT & Derek Dooley's recruiting,'They're not capable of out recruiting the rest of the league on a consistent basis.'--

Recruiting is not easy anywhere--it's a huge amount of work--and because UT must recruit out of state much more than georgia, bama and florida, there are definite challenges. But Fulmer was VERY successful--and he didn't bring much more than a big work ethic to the table. So Dooley can be successful--and I fully expect that he will be. UT has a ton to offer, and we are seeing that this year--after a stretch of weak seasons. When we start winning we'll do even better.

Delusional thoughts by a tennessee hater. Based on what tennessee already has we are going to be a much improved team next year and the year after. If that football training complex looks like it does in that Video next spring, and we improve, we are going to recruit at the highest level.

For starters the fact that he isn't going to do it this year. We're going to end up 6th in the SEC. I'll give him an obvious pass on last year's class because he came in so late in the game, but the fact that he got beat by UF, Bama, UA, UGA and Bama this season falls squarely on his shoulders. I'll believe he can keep pace with or beat those schools on the recruiting trail the minute I see it happen.

You cant be that stupid!

Bold 1) Yes! In two weeks took the class from 22nd to 9th!

Bold 2)That just shows your ignorance and his, there are no concrete facts yet. He doesnt even have his first full class yet. Will you admit your wrong in 3 days?

Sure, if some miracle occurs and we shoot up in to the Top 5 on Wednesday, I'll be more than happy to admit to you that I was wrong. However, I'm 100% confident that in 3 days I'll still be right. Do you have any idea how far behind Bama, LSU, Auburn and UGA we are right now? The only team we're still even remotely close with is UF but is highly unlikely we finish ahead of the either. We will however probably pass Ole Miss before all is said and done. The issue at hand was whether or not DD could recruit as good or better than the top coaches in the SEC, and after one full class the answer is a resounding "no".

Florida won't finish ahead of us. Quick, who do you think commits to Florida, since you are obviously on top of recruiting.

Once again, Tennessee is building what will be the best football training center in the country by far. He is already proving he will recruit near the top 10 and that training center will put him near the top 5 every year by default,

So he just basically spit on UT and said that CDD would NEVER be able to out recruit the top coaches from the SEC... He said "maybe they make it in the top 25, but I doubt it".... This dude just crawled under my skin. What do yall think?

My grandma's hairdresser thinks differently. Who ya gonna believe Grandma or this King guy...?

Fair enough, but we're not doing that either. We just keep falling further behind, particularly to Alabama, which is a shame since they are on our schedule every year. UF's coaching change will help us this year, but they'll be back to their usual selves next season.

As for your question, yes, Kiffin was headed for a top 5 class last season and maybe even as high as top 3. That's what you have to do if you want to have a real shot at winning in this league.

Maybe Bill King just means that since he has a say in the ratings he will make sure that DD never looks as though he is recruiting with the SEC "elite" coaches? Maybe?

Well, I knew you would take the bait. Go ahead and remove Mike Edwards, NuKeese Richardson, Bryce Brown, and David Oku from Kiffin's resume.

You still think Kiffin was a Big Dog? Remember, if they aren't in school they can't play. And if they can't play, they can't help your team.

It's funny how some of you star gazers hitch your wagon to Kiffy boy because he was loud and in your face. The reality is that he produced a class that would probably re-rank somewhere near 30th. Yet, according to you (and I am not picking on you) and others he was a recruiting god.

I bet you a dollar to a donut that wherever this class finishes - it will still be there in theory in 3-4 years. Big difference. More than one way to skin a cat and you can actually get the skin off.

Bill King was once a fulmerite, then he began to turn when he hooked up with David Climer, Nashville's smart-mouth journalist. He thinks he's he end-all recruiting guru; he does know his stuff, but not as "big" as his own opinion of himself. Don't let this little man wet on your roses, Vol fans.

Anti-Dooley crowd coming through loud and clear!!!!! They are mad because we didn't hire a worn out big name already past his prime or past the point of being hungry to succeed. Another Fulmer type with all the winning numbers, but on the downside of his career would better suit them.

Dooley is at a disadvantage because of less in state talent, but he has a lot of advantages, too. One is a great fan base, except for a few Negative Nellies.
