biggest improvement happens between games 1 and 2

We could still throw across the line of scrimmage at an angle to avoid the NT.
The point was, that attacking the perimeter was the adjustment made from what the defense was doing, it was probably the most effective adjustment by the team, it allowed the offense to actually sustain some drives. Dont get hung up on generalizing butch's offense with effective plays they use now.

That team really thought they would hang 60 + on our guys. I imagine halfway through the second quarter they were starting to question themselves.
The start of the 3rd qt was critical, a stop was mandatory to have a shot at the upset. As we witnessed WV knew that as well. WV played the opening series of the 3rd QT like it was a game winning drive. It was.

I also think the weather delay hurt us. We had mommentun at that point and a stop would have really put that game in question in their minds. Unfortunately sitting around for over an hour can take the momentum out of you sometimes.

Hurt both teams the same.

Biggest improvement better be between games 3 and 4 or Florida is gonna embarrass them. Ah, who are we kidding....Florida is gonna boat race Tennessee no matter when we play em.

Nice excuse. Who are you, Butch Jones? Both teams when through the weather delay.

The worst possible thing for your QB and passing game is pressure coming from the middle. JG dealt with all day long because our interior guys were getting manhandled by their NG.

I think we got punched in the face pretty good. But a couple of things to remember.

Grier is probably the best best QB we will face and possibly WVU has the best group of WRs we’ll face. I’ll be shocked if that team loses more than 1 game in the regular season. That team against the 17 Vols would have won 60-0.

Our o line will get better as Smith and others get used to playing more as a unit. I think a few games together will bring out a different line. And it’s obvious Smith needs the practice to get back to game shape.

The next 2 games will be good for our confidence and will allow CJP and staff to make lots of adjustments based on this game.

The defense as a whole will get much better with experience as they get more PT and adjust to the new system. The secondary on this team will never be really good, but I also think they have the potential to be good enough later in the season.

Lots of guys will get to play the next 2 weeks as they will be blowouts. This will help with building depth.

All in all, I was hoping we’d play better and we did at times, but consistency will come with reps and a better understanding of the schemes. I think the team that takes the field against Florida will be much better than the one who took the field yesterday.

6-6 it is. We will win 3 of either SC, UF, Missouri, UK or Vandy. My guess is UK, Vandy and Florida as I’m not sure they have the right offenses to exploit our weaknesses. SC will be tough due to scheduling and they have a good QB. Missouri will be tough due to Locke.
1. Lets hope WV doesn't lose any games. (OK looked really good)
2. Agree about Smith, some of the others have "topped out" as to ability and it is just not enough.
3. Based on this game, more than adjustments will be needed for this team. Building confidence requires more than beating up
teams you should beat up.
4. I agree, as has been the recent past experience, it can't do anything but get better.
5. Lets hope they are blowouts. Just wins will be pretty good at this point.
6. They better be or the wheels will come off again, regardless of this staff's efforts. It's hard to overcome being losers. Which,
bye the way, I think started in earnest with the last play against Fla. last year.

UF will be a pride game, need to see improved play on both sides of the ball.

Oh, I am sure we can play Cover 1 VS ETSU.....but leaving those FR DB's out on an Island to cover 2 maybe 3 of the top WR's in the country.......just plain STUPID. You can do that stuff at Alabama, with 11 5 star defensive players, nut not here...yet. CJP, DID NOT PUT HIS PLAYERS IN A POSITION TO BE SUCCESSFUL. FACT
Leaving them on an island..... The whole bunch are on an island. That is unless we figure out how to play 15 or so on defense on every play. This whole bunch needs help......

WV is a good team, but they are nothing compared to what UT will face in Bama, Georgia, Auburn, Florida, and South Carolina,

Don't agree, the veteran team had time to "get their mind right" (as stated in Cool Hand Luke). They came back out and went to work as they knew they could.

When all conditions are the same, no advantage is gained.

Piss off dude. I’m pretty sure you’ve never played sports before if you don’t see how momentum can be impacted by a long weather delay. Doesn’t surprise me based on your posts though.
