I think we got punched in the face pretty good. But a couple of things to remember.

Grier is probably the best best QB we will face and possibly WVU has the best group of WRs we’ll face. I’ll be shocked if that team loses more than 1 game in the regular season. That team against the 17 Vols would have won 60-0.

Our o line will get better as Smith and others get used to playing more as a unit. I think a few games together will bring out a different line. And it’s obvious Smith needs the practice to get back to game shape.

The next 2 games will be good for our confidence and will allow CJP and staff to make lots of adjustments based on this game.

The defense as a whole will get much better with experience as they get more PT and adjust to the new system. The secondary on this team will never be really good, but I also think they have the potential to be good enough later in the season.

Lots of guys will get to play the next 2 weeks as they will be blowouts. This will help with building depth.

All in all, I was hoping we’d play better and we did at times, but consistency will come with reps and a better understanding of the schemes. I think the team that takes the field against Florida will be much better than the one who took the field yesterday.

6-6 it is. We will win 3 of either SC, UF, Missouri, UK or Vandy. My guess is UK, Vandy and Florida as I’m not sure they have the right offenses to exploit our weaknesses. SC will be tough due to scheduling and they have a good QB. Missouri will be tough due to Locke.

Agree with OP and will add. Guarantano better than last year for sure. He has too learn to get out of the pocket and run when blitzed or he is not going to finish the season. Jordan's running was a real positive. The kicking was good. Did not attempt a field goal though. Last two years our secondary could not get their heads around and constantly chasing the play. Same this year. It seemed like we played better D when we were more aggressive at the line and linebackers. I hate to see the Tennessee D being dominated and running backwards on their heels. A couple too many penalties. Let's get these things corrected and get a lot better for Florida.

Oh, I am sure we can play Cover 1 VS ETSU.....but leaving those FR DB's out on an Island to cover 2 maybe 3 of the top WR's in the country.......just plain STUPID. You can do that stuff at Alabama, with 11 5 star defensive players, nut not here...yet. CJP, DID NOT PUT HIS PLAYERS IN A POSITION TO BE SUCCESSFUL. FACT

They played nickel and dime all game long. No one was left on an island.

I think they just aren’t any good, or haven’t been taught properly, or slow, or something.

If I see one more dime laid with the DB not getting his head around, my head will explode.

Stay away from the Orange Kool Aide. Tennessee and 70 points not going to happen..JG and company MIGHT get 35. With the way the defense plays might need all 35 !
Completely agree. Tennessee fans should have learned by now to never overlook anyone. It wouldn't surprise me at all if 35 is about where both teams end up. I've been burned so many times in my 40+ years rooting for Tennessee. Thinking an easy win and then it takes everything we've got to pull out a win.

Warrior is a talented athlete but not a great football player, only an average safety, not a difference maker. Abernathy has no business playing safety in the SEC. Buchanan and Osborne cannot play at this level. A lot of potential in Flowers, Taylor and Thompson and we need to take our lumps with them right now.....at least until Pruitt can recruit over them....there’s a reason why he has 5 DBs (right now) with a 6th expected soon committed in the 2019 recruiting class.

Another reason the DBs looked poor yesterday is because we have no player’s up front....no rush, no pressure whatsoever from our OVC JV type DTs and DEs equals what we saw yesterday from our secondary.

well, at least the next couple games will allow the coaches to improve and hopefully improve the team...better things ahead, just maybe not this year, but as always...

The next two games won’t tell us a thing.

We’ll see how much the boys have developed come the UF game.

Also, pretty sure we had a run on 3 and 23.

I don’t want to question your football knowledge here, but that is a tried and true method you’ll see from high school ball to the NFL, especially with an inxperienced QB. Run the ball on 3rd and a mile to avoid your QB trying to force something that isn’t there.

They better be better than what we saw against WV.

So Guarantano is inexperienced? If I'm remembering correctly, we had nothing to lose at that point and the runs weren't gaining us enough.

u sure? well then where in the heck were the safeties on the deep balls?

i'd say slow and young. nowhere near ready for major d-1 speed because they've been defending slower wrs in practice.

cant turn around if the wr has you beat by 5 yards. whats the point?

Being boat raced by anybody is not Tennessee football. Being boat raced multiple times in one season is not Tennessee football.
Being boat raced multiple times in multiple seasons is not Tennessee football.

So when is it going to be time for Tennessee football? Certainly not this season.
