Biggest impact freshman on offense and defense?

I'm going with A.J. Johnson and DeAnthony Arnett.

I see A. J. getting early playing time due to the depth on the roster.
Usually, the easiest transition for freshmen on offense are the Offensive Line or Runningback. Of course, the
running back will need to learn the blocking schemes on passing situations first. So, I say Lane, on offense and not Arnett.
I think that Arnett will be similiar to Da Rick, in that he
won't be able to fully digest the playbook, his freshman year. He will probably have two or three passing plays that he does and that will be all. Most of Da Rick's plays were running plays; except for the touchdown against Memphis on a 20 yard pass.

Berry was on a level we are likely not going to see again. He was all american day 1. # 3 rated HS player in the country and highest rated player to ever walk on campus.

Berry is a phenom, but Jamal was and so was Peyton.

Cobb was well on the way to it before his knee injury.

Pickens was a stud and so was Dale Carter.

Tennessee has had a habit of getting excellent players for awhile now.

Bryce Brown was higher. Not comparing him because he was overrated, just saying Berry wasn't the highest rated to walk on campus.

I agree with LWS to an extent, but to say freshmen have no chance of impacting the game is crazy. The game has evolved so much in recent years that more and more freshmen are making impacts their first season on campus. Considering our linebacker situation, I wouldn't be suprised to see AJ or Maggit come in and have a Donta Hightower esque type season. If injuries happen along the front, I'll take Marcus Jackson to make an impact on offense.

Offense- It's hard for me to pick Arnett over Vincent Dallas since VD has been here since Jan. Plus Dallas can help in the return game in my opinion.

Defense- AJ pretty much cause there's already room for him to step in. If he can just make some plays in fall camp, he'll start. And then hopefully by mid season he'll have his assignments down pretty well

My hope is that the biggest impact frosh is dev young on punt returns because if we can switch the field it will be a lot easier on the off. and def.

Assuming this is limited to true freshmen, then...

Offense: Marcus Jackson.
Defense: not sure any true freshman will have much impact

got you a stat. going back to 1977 season, I found 5 true freshmen on defense who were in top 5 in tackles.

Eric Berry
Jonathan Hefney
Raymond Austin
Joe Cofer
Jason Parker.

4 safeties and 1 linebakcer. Cofer played LB at 190 pounds.
so your saying there's a chance! I think one of the LBs breaks out this year and is added to that list!

Actually Bryce Brown was the #1 ranked player in the nation when he came here, at least by Rivals. (Regardless of what we think of that ranking now he was still #1)

very true. I completed forgot about Bryce. but you are correct

Cofer played safety that year he was in top 5, actually led team in tackles. But there was another freshmen who was fourth on the team in tackles the same year (1981) . Duan Henry.

Henry was a sure fire future All American but quit school and football after that first year. went home to Newport.

been doing some research. :)
