I think the actual number is 5 games plus a bowl game if said team were to make one. That is why some who like the idea of Tressel coaching said hire him after the MSU game and he would have already served his suspension going into next year.

Tressel can be hired. It's not all that popular, since the media has made a lot out of the situation....but the reality is, his players didn't really do anything wrong. And that's why I think he "covered" for them. Had there been some clear wrong doing, I'm sure he would have taken more punitive measures.

But he didn't think the players selling some of their memorabilia was any of the NCAA's business. They disagreed, and punished him and the team for it.

I know I am alone in this, but Tressel would be right up there with Patterson. His show cause is not a ban. It just means his penalties will follow him. It amounts to a slap on the wrist, so I don't know why so many make a big deal out of it.

He effectively paid his dues last year, when he took a job as a game time consultant with the Indianapolis Colts, and sat out 6 games. UT would have the option to hire him and sit him for his first 5 games (and a bowl game if we went to one), or they would go before a show cause panel with the NCAA and ask to have his penalties waived or reduced....which is very likely, since he already voluntarily sat out 6 games last year, and it has been well over a year since the infraction.

If you remove all the NCAA stuff, I don't think there is any question that he would be a top candidate, and many programs would be fighting over one another to get him. To me, this is one of those great "Scratch and Dent" finds. The scratch isn't anywhere as big as most are making it out to be...and what we'd get in return is a coach who has been like Saban in his own conference.

Think about it for a minute...we could hire him for pennies on the dollar, so to speak...and instead invest more heavily in an allstar staff. And I would be confident that whoever his assistant head coach would be, could handle business for 5 games (if there were no reduction in penalties).

If what he did was so egregious, he'd have a hell of bigger penalty than 5 games. People compare him to Bruce Pearl. Bruce got a bigger penalty. 3yrs of no recruiting. That's a black eye. Tressel's is, again, a slap on the wrist.

If we'd consider a scumbag like Petrino, there's no reason in my mind why the AD shouldn't take a serious look at Tressel. The guy can recruit with the best and he can coach with the best. Don't give me any of this "Can't beat an SEC team, BS." 3 NC appearances is nothing to scoff at...win or lose. And plenty of SEC teams lose to other SEC teams. Doesn't mean they can't compete. Even Bama lost to LSU last year, yet managed to come back and win the NC.

They should have lost to LSU this year. Tressel is one hell of a coach. Has a better collegiate resume than any other we might consider. Some food for thought.

I didn't want Petrino as our coach. But when someone posted the article about Kentucky being a great fit for him, I got a little nervous.

If he had been hired to Kentucky at the same time we hired Dooley, they would be waxing our asses right now.

I think I'd be ok with him as our next coach now.

Cheated? He took the fall for dumb, selfish players.

Can't believe there is more support for Petrino, who brought all his criticism upon himself with his own actions, yet Tressell gets dismissed for getting thrown under the bus and taking the hit for some dumb kids.

PS he has won a NC, was 4-3 in BCS bowls, and Petrino has done what?
