If you're interested, please reserve a spot, so we can manage the traffic.

It was asked in another thread if it was acceptable to sign up for multiple sessions, and the answer is yes. You just need to make sure you pre-register for the ones you want to attend.

Btw, I’m sure that Julian Phillips time will change bc they have practice until 5:30 that day.

We had a great time, so thanks again for organizing! It was an impressive lineup of athletes and everyone was great. Felt bad that you all had to run around behind the scenes due to the weather, but it was all good. We were at all four sessions, no shame!

Awesome! I know there were a few folks that got to do all four sessions. Everyone was really cool, but I was disappointed that a few players didn’t show.
I don’t know if you saw, but three football players got up on the rock wall for a while.
I was able to get short interviews with almost everyone for the House of Sport podcast, so that was fun! Thanks for coming.

I did see those guys up on the wall, that was pretty funny and they looked like they were having a great time! Since it was such a large number of players, I’m not surprised that a small number didn’t show, but didn’t bother us atall. Thanks again for organizing!

Seems like the purpose of NIL has already lost to the idea of ROI. Once fall camp starts the free time players have should be used to improve at football.

These guys spend so much time training for their sports. Spending up to two hours on a side hustle every once in a while shouldn’t affect that. They can’t be expected to practice 100% of the time that they aren’t in class. At least from my perspective, NIL has meant much more to these kids than just making a few bucks here and there.

If an NIL deal gets in the way of the players preparing for the game, NIL is working against the big picture.

It all about the player’s free time. Now that some are getting good money, the expectations on their time will change. I’ll be disappointed if an NIL appearance during the season becomes a distraction. To me that’s not doing NIL the right way.

All of this is speculative. Do you have examples to speak of, or are you just worried that players will make poor decisions? I doubt the football players will have time to do much/anything during the season. The whole reason we planned the Big Orange Hangout when we did was bc the players aren’t practicing yet.
Lots of baseball players were very active in the NIL market during their season, and they still produced one of the best regular seasons in the sport’s history.

I don’t consider a player meeting NIL obligations as a player making poor decisions, to me it’s the NIL that is making poor decisions if a function interferes with game prep.

If a player needs some down time but they have to go jump thru some hoops to satisfy their NIL deal, it could be a problem.

Pure speculation on my part. I guess we will all see how this plays out over the next few seasons.

I see what you’re saying. Well, in most cases, the player can refuse an NIL deal or obligation. Spyre is the only group that could technically give them a required task or event to attend, and they’re working with the university’s athletic dept…whose main concern is winning.

Spyre is just one NIL source. The players created their own, with similar expected gatherings.

Speculating here but seems like it’s wide open for an actual business to hire them thru NIL and expect some of their time. It seems like their busy schedule might busier. NIL is executed improperly could leave them with less free time.

My definition of free time is unstructured practice, film, weight room, or whatever process they can be involved in to perfect their craft activities.

I expect them to have down time, but to be successful, they really need to put in the work for next 6 months, then take some real time off for a couple of weeks.

Out working the competition has been a successful ingredient to past Vol teams.

NIL will surely get out of hand, but your post is in a thread for an event in which players spend 2 hours meeting with kids/families/fans and taking pics and autographs before the start of Fall camp. I think frowning on an event such as this is a bit much.

Let me better relate my point of view.

The only part I’m frowning on is that I wasn’t able to be there with my crew.

I do have a genuine concern for the product on the field being negatively impacted because a Vol fan wants face time with players that interfere with preparation for game time.

I expect it will all be handled properly by JH and staff. Sometimes I do worry that the ones giving money will expect more from the players that they are paying, rather than the players having fulfilled their contracts by giving all for UT football and not spending their time hanging out with their NIL gifters.

I know why worry about something that hasn’t happen and probably won’t happen.

Well let me ease your concerns by telling you that almost every athlete has some sort of a management team that looks after them. Very few of these athletes are making the deals themselves and handling their planning. I have been told NO THANKS many many times after requesting an athlete for an event.
Especially for football, I don’t think there will be any problem with them overextending. And then, as I mentioned before, the baseball team and basketball teams both participated in events during their seasons, and it didn’t seem to affect their play. I think they are doing these events in time that otherwise would’ve been spent playing video games, or something like that.
