Big Name/Big Splash Coach Thread (merged)

So, if everyone could choose who their "splash" is who would it be?
Fire away..

If anyone would come I would pick Bob Stoops. Based on the few names we keep hearing over and over and over and over again I guess my worthless endorsement would go to Brian Kelly now that Muschamp is off the table.

If the "Big Splash Theory" is true, then it is not going to be one of the guys we have been discussing since Day 1... A big splash implies something better than what EVERYONE has been assuming. (Big Splash = Either a name we haven't heard yet, a long shot famous coach, or someone who has claimed to not be interested). In my opinion Brian Kelly is not a big splash, and I don't think he will be our coach if the "Big Splash Theory" is true.

1. Stoops
2. Miles
3. Davis

This seems a lot more like a big splash list than the likes of Kelly, Kiffin, or any small school HC. Personally I think it is Davis... As soon as saying he wasnt interested, the pressure has been taken off of him, which is exactly what he wanted. We will let UNC finish the season and find out what bowl they'll play in, and then it will be announced.

Why was Phil fired when he was?

First, so that if by chance the VOLS suddenly started playing like they should, which could possibly make firing Phil look like MH pulled the hook to soon. Give him another year, the Clawoffense will come around etc. MH could not wait, it needed to be done and he had to strike while the iron was hot.

Second, to line up someone who had already expressed interest, I certainly think UT had behind the scenes inquires well before firing Phil was announced. It is widely reported that Gruden was the main candidate UT wanted. It is known we've had contact with Jon and he skirted the issue but, hardly as plainly as Davis.

Third, make time for contract negotiations and for Gruden to put out feelers himself for possible assistance's.

Fourth, if Gruden doesn't pan out, MH isn't on the hook because so many of the Orange faithful desired him so badly.

If Gruden isn't named the HC, I believe it is because he changed his mind. That might be due to Tampa playing better, or maybe UT didn't offer the control or cash he thought they would.

You all are on something if you think you can get Stoops from Norman...I live in Moore about 8 miles from OU and closer to where Stoops is building a new home in NW Norman...you only get Stoops when OU runs him off (say another BCS meltdown) or when someone comes in and throws bigger $$$ at him than Saban received from 'Bama. From his season this year and spanking of Leach and Texas Tech last night...well...keep on fantasizing and dreaming, that is not happening unless you go Big...would love to see it but...it won't

Any talk down there about Kevin Wilson being a candidate for any of the coaching searches?

It seems to me that all the "big splash" coaches have denied interest (not that it means crap). Hammy if your in this forum undercover give us some dam$ clues !!!

Football isn't about flashing schemes and resumes,...football is about consistant strengths,...esp. in CHARACTER. A guy taking your son away and helping to finish raising him for the next 4 yrs. We need a guy to keep the UT family a good & healthy destination for our student athletes. These coaches are BIG SPLASH guys, who will not leave for a "better job" (like a NFL guy would do) and treat our program with respect and continue the traditions of over 100 Years of Volunteers!

1. Jeff Bower (I know he got let go @ U. of Southern Miss last year, but it wasn't his coaching, it was something personal wasn't it,...I never heard why.)

2. Randy Edsall - U Conn (I hate U Conn)
3. Jim Leavitt - South Florida
4. Chris Petersen - Boise State (could he fit in the South?)

May not want leave current job (5-6)
5. Pat Hill - Fresno State
6. Jim Grobe - Wake

These guys would help us keep Chavis (7-9)
7. Jim Harbaugh - Stanford (doing more w/less)
8. Jason Garrett - Dallas Cowboys - Off. Coord
(won't leave Dallas)
9. Major Applewhite - Off. Coord, Bama (too young)

Final destination until retirement – gives a cushion for our change, who really wants to fill in the wake of firing Phil, this could acoid a decade of SUCK,.. ala Bama#10 would be great.

10. Jerry Moore (Dale Jones is @ Appy State, Moore has less than 5 yrs. coaching left in him,...he is an established guy w/Natl. Championship exp. - nobody w/less exp. would want to follow Fulmer?)

Though he resigned after 17 years as head coach, a terse Bower did not sound like it was completely voluntary.

"I want you to know there's a lot of fight left in Jeff Bower, and I am not done yet," the grim-faced coach said.

Bower did not take questions after making a short statement flanked by his wife and daughter. He resigned earlier Monday after meeting with athletic director Richard Giannini.

Giannini said fan discontent had grown during a season when the Golden Eagles were expected to win the Conference USA title, but fell short at 7-5.

"I said all along I was disappointed and people were disappointed in the season, and I don't change that statement," Giannini said.

Bower was 119-82-1 as the school's head coach and had been in the same job longer than all but three coaches in the Football Bowl Subdivision. Only Penn State's Joe Paterno (42), Bobby Bowden (32) of Florida State and Virginia Tech's Frank Beamer (21) have longer tenures with their schools. His only losing seasons came in 1991 and '93.

Sound familiar?:eek:hmy:

Will Lane Kippen bring Monte Kippen with him?

NO, Monte is in FL so he can just retire in the great blue hair state................. But i would think Monte would bring more to the table than Lane would, Not as the head coach but as a Asst.

heard he is bringing Ed Orgeron in to help recruit, and be some sort of co-cordinator, also they want Chavis to stay on if he would.
