Big hit sighting Yesterday for the VOLS Defense.

It’s been a long time since we’ve seen a defense laying the wood like we did yesterday. We still have a ways to go but I thought the energy and heart our boys played with yesterday was the best so far this year. The opening hit on Frohm from Alexis Johnson fired me up, that’s how you let a QB know it’s not gonna be an easy day for him. Shoutout to Alexis for that big time hit. The hit on fields was also a great hit, there are several more that I’m missing off the top of my head but I will go back and watch film to figure out the rest of our big time hits yesterday. Defensive line played much better as a unit yesterday, Darrel Taylor came out of his shell yesterday and was making some big time plays for us. Most notably that first strip off frohm. Taylor’s first step yesterday was great and I hope that’s a sign of more to come. Eventually those fumbles are gonna go our way, We just have to continue to apply pressure like we did yesterday and things will be fine. I like where our defense is right now and I’m excited to see how they can progress throughout the year. What was everyone else’s opinion on our defense yesterday??

*Gave up 38 points
*Got much worse on 3rd down- allowed Ga to convert 8-14 3rd downs and 1-1 4th downs
*Allowed 251 yards rushing and 5 yds per carry
*Didnt, again, force any turnovers.
*GA dropped at least 2 balls that would’ve been huge gains if not scores.....if they make those plays, which they normally do, it would’ve been much worse.

Are we really excited about this defensive “performance”? Kinda ridiculous if you are.

You also have to keep in mind that UGA held the ball for 37 minutes compared to just 22 minutes by UT. That defense was getting worn down. They didn't really start looking awful, to me, till the second half. They weren't great, but they're showing improvement. Still too many missed opportunities and big mistakes, but they're showing improvement at least.

No we forced 2 turn fumbles, just didn't recover them.

They got some bad breaks not being able to recover any of the fumbles, got left on the field too long as the offense continues to be largely ineffective. Overall I liked the intensity and finally started getting some pressure. Banks putting the ball on the ground late in the game gave GA a tack on touchdown. Only so much time you can be out on the field before you wear down.

I agree, yet it doesn't negate the bigger picture issue and the overall failure to achieve the primary goal.

No reread my response, we caused 2 fumbles. I didn't say we caused 2 turnovers. I know it's hard for some to comprehend things that's not negative and trashing our players and coaches so I do apologize.

The post you responded to said that we did not create any turnovers. You responded "no" and went on to explain we caused two fumbles that were not recovered. So you should re-read and boost your comprehension abilities. After that, you can worry about my outlook and your pumping of sunshine.

Kinda ridiculous that you use those stats but you fail to mention the mediocre offensive numbers we had that caused our defense to get worn out come late 4th quarter. If we do a little more on offense then maybe our defense is fresh and Georgia doesn’t go on a 14-0 run in the last 4 minutes of the game. 14 points in the final 4 minutes doesn’t mean our defense played badly, they looked good up to that point and you know it. They put us in a position to win the game but we couldn’t put together enough on offense to get it done. Bottom line, Georgia had 37:22 minutes of possession to our 22 minutes. We couldn’t get off the field on third down enough and we couldn’t convert hardly any of our own 3rd downs 2-10 for the day. Those are the stats that stick out to my mind. If you want to keep treating this like it’s a video game and only paying attention to those stats then have at it. But those stats don’t tell the whole story of yesterday’s game And that’s just the truth.

With our youth and clear lack of talent in Key areas, Yeah I am thrilled this team was in the game midway through the 4th against Georgia on the road. Georgia missing passes ? What about the absolute fluke fumble for a touchdown? Or the passes our guys dropped that would have given our defense a rest instead of leaving them out there the entire game.

If you want to be pissy about stats or what ifs I’ll give you the 3rd down defense playing poor.

We made them cough the ball up a few times just didn’t execute the recovery.

They showed a spark yesterday down a ton that we haven't seen in the last 16 games or so. There was life at one point to where I was hopeful. They were simply too worn out to make it stick. GA got lucky twice with fumbles yesterday that could have turned MO enough that this may have been very close.

Looked like improvement to me by the defense. Was it perfect, of course not. But not a lot of help from the offense, especially until late in the game. But this was a real team we were playing on the road, so I’m actually pleased with improvement.
