Big 10 Writer On Gameday At Tennessee!

Im listening for a big POPPING sound.....hopefully you are able to unwedge your head from your backside.

If you are going to insult another school, at least be accurate.

The Goalpost thing (temporary H style goal post) was the last game of the 1983 season. It was the last game of Coach Muddy Waters, and the admins knew that the students were coming after the goalposts. So they were smart enough to put temporary posts up, and save a ton of money and possible injury.

So, if 30 years is "a few years ago", then that is fine.

MSU is in the top 10 because they are a top 10 team.

Gameday doesnt care how many fans are in your stadium, but obviously 107,000 is more impressive than 75,000.

and bush league? give me a break. Learn your football.

I'll stand by my bush league statement. Look around you. Everything here is TN orange. Not Florida. Not MSU green. So, I can say that your piss ant stadium up in East Lansing is not worthy of an ESPN Gameday visit if I want to. I shouldn't worry about offending any MSU fans here. Let me be clear: The SEC has won 6 straight National BCS Championships. None for the Big Ten. So, if our second tier teams have a great rivalry and the game means something that it hasn't in a few years then the excitement that is usually 10 times more than any Wisconsin vs MSU or Indiana Vs MUS or Iowa vs MSU or Penn State vs MSU game ever saw. And this year, it's not even a discussion. I mean, look at the stadium comparison? Would Kirk Herbstreit and Lee Corso want to use an out house and have lunch at the stadium hot dog stand? Or would they rather pilot a 45 foot yacht down the tennessee river, pull over into Calhoun's for early morning brunch and their favorite beverage before heading over to a magnificient S-E-C atomsphere with 107,000 fans? Or just sit on a wooden bench in a cruel excuse for a stadium?
You make the call, Gata!

I quit reading when he made the crack about it being rare for either team to be ranked. Yeah Tennessee hasn't been ranked in a while but at the same time we're not eactly strangers to the top 25 either and Florida has won 2 of the last 6 national championships. I think they're failrly familiar with being ranked.

Im not offended, I just think that you are ignorant. There is a difference.

You choose to bash a school because you have plenty of backup here. Thats cool. Im ok with that.

You are bashing one school because you love your school. I can get on board with that theory. You love your school, and you do indeed play in what is now the best conference in college football. You havent won a championship in that conference in a while, but thats ok.

Have you ever been to Spartan Stadium? If you have, it has not been recently. As for rivalries, there are some that will equal them, but there are no rivalries anywhere that outdo um -v- o$u, or MSU -v- um. Equal, maybe. Better, none.

And yeah, nothing in E.Lansing worth visiting.....that must be why they never take GameDay to Mich State....OH WAIT, they were there just last year for a game between MSU and Wisconsin that was won on a hail mary. Nothing worth seeing there. Really.

Be honest with yourself, you are giving me crap because Im a Gator, and not thinking about my ties to UT and why I might be hanging around this place.

I hope MSU meets UT in Bowl this year, but you probably wont be good enough to do that. It would be an MSU win, and I have zero doubt about that.

Carry on.

Is this the same writer CBS fired because he reported Paterno's death but at that time he was still alive?

I dont know who the writer was, but he does very poorly at his job. It was a crap article, and Im sure that most people at MSU disagree with him. ND fans always think they are better than anyone else and deserve more.

I think GameDay is in the right spot this week.

I think a lot of it has to do with the GameDay drought we've had. Knoxville hosts one of the premiere college football experiences in the nation but they haven't really had a reason to come in a while. This week they have a legitimate reason so they're taking advantage of it. All the other venues that are hosting a big game have had a GameDay visit recently.

My two cents: Michigan State is ranked #10 sure. But, at season's end, they will be among the 16th or below mediocre teams you can bet on it.

Are you saying that MSU will be around 16th at the season's end? Hell, most UT fans would do cartwheels and back flips if UT was ranked 16th at the end of the season.

I'd like that. We'll just consult the Boise State coaches for some useful pointers.

Great points. UT has a ton of talent, and yall look like the real deal. UF looks like they could be a contender as well. I dont think the excitement has been this big for this game in a long time.

I can tell you this, Ive lived in TN for almost 6 years now, and Ive never seen it like this since I moved here.

This is an exciting game any year, but I think this year is different. I know the Vols Fans are going to be at the gameday set and give a great showing.

1)Find a way to stop Le'veon Bell.
2)Maxwell will be a completely different QB by the end of the year, and hopefully his WRs dont drop 3 passes into the hands of the DBs
3) Find a way for your D to score, because your O will not.

Id love to see the matchup. my kid would hate it.

I disagree -- I have lived here for 17 years and every year the same ole Tennessee is back and we are going to stomp UF blaa blaa -- unfortunatley I think this year they might

You crack me up. I don't think you have to use the "You are ignorant because I am going to carefully craft each and every post on here" business. Listen, I never singled you out to give YOU crap. I was only giving crap to MSU. You brought on the gator stuff. You started to take shots and me. You started defending the defenseless MSU spartens. Honestly, I DO NOT CARE ABOUT MUS FOOTBALL. When i have 7 games to choose from, I'll more than likely pick USC, or Boise State, or Texas, or any SEC game, or Florida State or even Hawaii before I would sit down and watch a Big Ten game. Unless it is Ohio State. I am fond of them.

You having doubt or no doubt would play no role in the outcome of the game. Not saying Tennessee would beat MSU or play them in a bowl game, but it has nothing to do with being 'good enough' when Tennessee plays a far more difficult set of opponents than MSU does.

And on another note, while it has been a 14 years since Tennessee has won a National title, when was the last time MSU won anything of consequence?

6 National Titles
9th All time in wins

That's all I need to know about the difference between the 2 programs.

You are probably as good of a person as me in real life, maybe better. So, for that, there is nothing I have to say. It is not personal. please dont take it that way.

But your comments on Michigan State are ignorant. I think you know that. I think you are doing it on purpose. Im just wasting a little time here at work to point that out.

If you read most of my posts in this thread (and yeah, that is probably a waste of good time) you would see that on most points we might actually agree.

I just believe you are taking comments from decades ago and trying to make them fit in todays football world. UT is not what they were in the 90s, but they are getting back to it. The Big10 is not what they were in the 70s and 80s, but several teams are still very good.

Either way, you will think what you want to think. And 2 more things:
1) Im not smart enough to carefully craft anything.
2) you seems to care more about MSU football that you let on

No kidding? Seriously?

Not saying Tennessee would beat MSU or play them in a bowl game, but it has nothing to do with being 'good enough' when Tennessee plays a far more difficult set of opponents than MSU does.

This is always going to be debatable. There are some embarassing BigTen losses, mostly to Alabama. But the SEC is certainly better top to bottom right now.

6 National Titles
9th All time in wins

6 National Titles. Latest is regrettably 1966. If you go back past your latest, you still have me by 1 year.

Back to back 11 win seasons.

That's all I need to know about the difference between the 2 programs.

If yall would quit trying to act so superior to everone else, you would probably see that there are more similarities than you want to admit.

If I were not a Gator, I would love Tennessee football. Ive always been a fan of Johnny Majors, and I like Phil Fulmer. You have a lot of history here.

History aside, I still think that right now MSU football is in a better spot than UT. That is my opinion, and I believe it will show on the field as well.

what really sucks is, if (when??) Michigan State loses this year, there will be people bashing me because I believe in my team. That day/week will suck.
