Biased announcers

I just said they don't hate us. Also the knoxville media market doesn't mean a whole lot. There are as many if not more diehard UT fans all over the country as any school. The college football market isn't limited to one city like you make it sound. Ann Arbour and Gainesville can't be much better that Knoxville.

good point. but gainesville is riding some pretty big highs right now. USC, well, yeah, their media market means a whole lot. 5 ut fans per media market outside the volunteer state isn't going to result in that big of numbers for espn.

There are more UT fans in other parts of the country that you think. Even more important is the fact that they care about football and will watch anything that has UT period.

smartest thing you've possibly ever said. they know ut fans are already hooked, they don't have to do anything else to get them to watch. so if they can go after the major media markets and get those people to watch it equals more money.

ps. 5 per market was a bit unrealistic i know, but i was making a point. the number is still extremely small

I thought this thread was about announcers not liking us and never saying anything positive when it comes to the Vols...How did we get off to what the best market is????

if they hate us so much, why do we get so many sat night espn games?

You're contradicting yourself here. You say the media only cares about markets, and UT has a small market, yet they brodacast a ton of our games. The fact is Tennessee football has close to as many viewers as any. That's what really matters. My personal opinion is
1. That ESPN doesn't talk about us as much because the biggest SEC games are broadcast by CBS for the most part. So, why during the regular season, hype and exploit storylines for Tennesssee? (Preseason is a different story). Notre Dame is the exception for ESPN
2. Story lines make more money than big markets and big games. Having gameday at V.Tech being proof. So is the Heisman Trophy. People won't care what school it is if there's a good story, thus elminating market issues. The only story lines coming out of Tennessee right now are whether or not they'll ever be as good as they used to be and will they kick the crap out of Cal again. The difference in broadcasting companies and the exploitation of storylines showed in the Cal game because the announcers knew virtually everything about Cal and absolutely nothing about Tennessee. It showed again later in the year when an ESPN announcer called Brett Smith "Brad Smith" against Memphis, and again when Desmond Howard didn't even know what bowl we were playing in. Face it, they don't know or care about UT because there's nothing going on.

You've got to do better than an announcer confusing the first name of our #3 receiver with another rather highly touted player to show proof of bias.

How about the idea that the Big East is a legit power conference when in fact they have no talent whatsoever.

If butchering names is a sign of disdain, Bob Kesling absolutely hates the Vols.

Also West Virginia obviously didn't out-talent Georgia. UT almost lost to Air Force because of the option. Talent had nothing to do with it.

You can name a few more than that.........(NFL Players) or wrestlers......:birgits_giggle:

I could name a bunch of NFL players who have played in the Big East. However, the vast majority of posters here are informed enough that it would just be telling them something they already know. The remaining membership isn't worth the effort.
