I’m in favor of decreasing all spending. Military spending is one that I pointed out because it traditionally goes against a conservative platform.
I don't think that really goes against the conservative platform. I think most conservatives want the minimum amount of defense spending to insure our safety. No if you meant republican platform, I agree. Lobbyist of all kinds really dictate our policy. Defense contractors are some mighty big lobbyist tus why most republicans are big military.

Technically I should be a centrist Democrat but I don't like poor, stupid, or lazy people so I am not a democrat.

I am economically conservative and a "moderate" on some social issues like the legalization of marijuana and gay marriage. I am not a pacifist but I do not support our attempts at nation building unless our national security is legitimately threatened unlike Vietnam and Iraq. I support disability assistance and welfare assistance for those who truly need it but I do not support non-work requirements for those who are physically able to at least attempt to find employment. Immigration should be regulated and taxes should be low. The Democrat party has drifted way too far to the left and the Republican party for the most part is useless on most issues

3 things have greatly influenced my political views. My dad of course and 2 events as a kid that I'll never forget.

The first was a trip to the train yard to pick up some sprayers, we walked into the office and they had 3-4 lights working and my dad asked if N&S was too broke to buy some light bulbs. Guy said they had to call in an electrician from the Roanoke yard to get the bulbs changed so they waited until all of them were burnt out before they turned in a work order. That of course didn't make any sense to me so I asked my dad and he explained the union rules and I remember thinking that was absolutely stupid.

The second was a ag show my dad took me to and Gov Chuck Rob spoke. Part of his speech was about unionizing farm labor and I remember telling my dad that if farms were union and had to work like the railroad they would all go broke. I decided then that the democrats were too stupid to run things.

The 'worst poll' option is the most popular for a reason.

Expound upon the areas where you agree and disagree philosophically with party (if you don't mind).
Base it off of philosophical political opinions (e.g., socially progressive or conservative, fiscally progressive or conservative, etc.) rather than alignment with a party.

As you said, I think very few people here are partisans but most people have a clear ideological bent.

I've always been independent and both parties have moved left and thus left me. The republicans are spending like democrats of old. The democrats have went straight socialist.
The Democrats have certainly moved left but I disagree with you about the Republican party. They've moved farther right which is one reason why I left the party and have basically become an independent

I would be interested to see how you believe they have move further right? Because I agree with the OP they are left of where they should be.

I think some of this is confirmation bias with some issues previously had bipartisan support but now is just ye olde Republicans stances. The wall/immigration in particular was supported by Clinton and Obama in various ways. But now it's a racist Republican issue. They havent moved right on the issue they just havent shifted with society. Which will cost them.

When it comes to fiscal restraint the GOP has gone early 2000s dem left. Both parties support out of control spending it's just they want to spend on different things.

Abortion. Immigration. Religion
They've always been anti-abortion. They've always been for legal immigration, they've always been against illegal immigration. I don't wtf you are talking about religion. his country, including republicans are miles and miles away from religion. Not even close. Sounds like you've moved away not the republicans.

I ask you to please look at the platforms from the 1980s until now. And please don't try to tell me the evangelicals haven't become far more prominent in the party during the last 40 years

To be fair ( even though I agree after spending 15 years in a union ) the RR unions are a horrible mess of regulations , crazy ass rules and some of the back stabbingest people I’ve ever seen . They are a union that isn’t a union that is classified as one . It’s a really strange concept they have .

Lutz. You're watching way to much CNN. Evangelicals as a whole are miles from where they were in the 80's it's not even close. You're just your typical Christian hater.

I'm a Christian, so you have no idea WTF you're talking about and I don't watch CNN. Thanks for exposing your ignorance with your personal shots. You're right about the evangelicals. They are miles away from where they were 40 years ago. They're being led by a bunch of hypocrites now
