For my 34,000th post, I wanted to do something grand and meaningful. Having not thought of anything neither grand nor meaningful, I decided to post a poll.

We come here to argue mainly. And we poke fun at the other side. Only a very few of us are absolute partisans forever devoted to party. I used to identify with Rs but not anymore. I don't think I changed; I think what the R stood for changed and the party kinda left me behind. I am a non voter (conscientious objector) but would gladly vote for someone who shared my ideas. If I was forced to vote at gunpoint this election, it would be for Jorgenson.

So, where do you REALLY stand outside of party or discussion? Choose all that apply.

If this is about the party then they've left me. As a registered ii independent I would typically find candidates that appealed to me on both sides. Both parties are really so far to the left now. The democrats are full on socialist teetering on communism. I'll never vote for another Democrat. Democrats just 20-30 years ago were more conservative than republicans today.

I think Trump is a POS . He's an egomaniac, self centered, scum bag personally but he's a much better alternative than the socialist democrats whose platform is basically:

Higher taxes
Free healthcare for all
Open bordered with free services for anyone that comes
Anti-law and order
Green new deal
Anti 2A
Destroy anyone that gets in their way

That's basically their platform and they seem to be proud of it.

You have always been an independent and both parties left you?

I wish the poll had an option along the lines of "I generally approve of my party's philosophy, but there are significant parts I would change"
The 'worst poll' option is the most popular for a reason.

Expound upon the areas where you agree and disagree philosophically with party (if you don't mind).

I've always been independent and both parties have moved left and thus left me. The republicans are spending like democrats of old. The democrats have went straight socialist and have adopted Marxism.

Of the choices available the “partially left me” is the closest fit.

It’s the worst poll ever because I want an “as pissed as I am at my party the other guys scare the hell outta me and must be stopped by whatever means available.” That’s a twist on the “I don’t care with my own anymore but the other guy sucks worse” I’m not in total agreement with my party anymore but I’m it total disagreement with the other major party.

Which planks from the party platform did they leave you holding?

Agree
Tax structure is hurting long term economic prosperity with too many breaks to the wealthiest
Economic inequality is going to be the downfall of the country
Healthcare finances are too complicated, should be simplified, and there should be a public option to buy into Medicare
End or at least reform the electoral college to equalize vote value for national office, inter and intra state
Curtail gerrymandering

Disagree
Law enforcement needs more resources, not less (and actually I think Biden and Harris would agree on that one)
Deregulation can be a good thing. Needs to be smart, but certainly has value long term
Environmental protections are misplaced and seem to target opportunity -- need a long term plan with incremental change rather than dramatic fixes that end up getting repealed in the next administration
While race relations need improvement, the black community and leadership needs to take more responsibility for how they seemingly reject ascribing a criminal culture to that community, but then promote the image when it suits them

Why "curtail" gerrymandering on not "eliminate"?

My thoughts align pretty closely with ND40’s except I have never belonged to a party. My own principles favor smaller government, strong military and a generally conservative outlook, so I am naturally repulsed by the Democrat party but more and more disappointed by the R party as well. So I will vote for “screwed up poll”.

Biggest is fiscal conservatism by far
One more follow up.

Fiscal conservatism to me is spending and borrowing. But some look at tax policy. Which elements does your fiscal conservatism include?

Registered Democrat. Used to be registered as an independent until Bush/Cheney completely turned me off to the GOP. I haven’t voted for a Republican since their first term. That view was exasperated and solidified by the inception of teal party obstructionist politics during the Obama administration. Coincidentally I see a lot of complaining about the move of Democrats much further the the left recently, but I view that as reactionary to the right’s proverbial declaration to destroy any bipartisanship that remained post GWB.

I can certainly acknowledge the Democratic Party is imperfect and contributes greatly to the insanity of the US political landscape of today, but on most philosophical issues their platform most aligns with my views. Specifically, my target issues are healthcare, climate change/environmental issues, education, wealth inequality, criminal justice, and general human equality.

What does 'general human equality' mean?
