Beware of gameday truck theft

Yea...I thought with 2 cops at each intersection beside the lot I was good but.... The cops via phone stopped me from filing early on after it happened and kept saying it got towed. They said towing companies do a horrible job letting them know about each car towed. Told me to call back the next day. I told them about a camera aimed towards my truck and their response was they were too short handed to send an officer there. I also mentioned common sense made me think the sooner it got reported the better chance of seeing it transported or driven. The officer on the phone actually laughed at me and said if it's stolen I would never see it again. It was there at the end of the 3rd qtr. I got to the lot just as the game ended. They very likely could have found it that soon but refused to look. Anyway, no more complaining from me. Just wanted to let it be known trucks are on gameday lists and especially Silverados.

Btw...I bought that truck new in 07. Hard years of work to pay it off. It was a garage queen that had less than 100k miles. Liability only on it due to the age of it and the fact I never hardly drove it. I'm never too old to learn about trash out there! My loss but beware of what you drive to the games or other sporting events.

I mean....insurance pays for the truck. OP will probably get out of a truck he was more than likely upside down on anyways. The thief probably did him a favor. And again, never park anywhere near the fort. It should be obvious that it’s a terrible part of town...

Just now seeing this. Sorry for your loss. At least now you can get a new truck. You’ll fall in love all over again!

Was found still running several hours later by THP up near Johnson City at a interstate pull-over, not stripped but pretty beat -up. Knoxville's finest don't seem to care. I wonder how many they recover as to how many are stolen.

As far as vehicles are concerned, cops are nothing but insurance brokers.

If I recall correctly, a former Knox County Sheriff was heavily implicated in a big car theft ring.

Some things never change. My Jeep was stolen from the Townview Terrace apartments when I was in school in 1978. Went in my apartment at 4pm. came out at 8 pm and jeep was gone. Called police. they came out, filled out a report and said the same thing: probably at a chop shop in Cocke county. Never heard another word.

Had a similar situation happen to me...get it documented and tell your insurance company anyhow. Reason being is that you can claim it as a total loss deduction on your taxes at year's end.

About 40 years ago, a buddy parked his brand new ‘77 Cutlass Supreme at the Ag campus for a game, came back, and it was gone. Probably wound up in a chop shop somewhere. Never saw it again.

Unfortunately no you can't claim it on your taxes.

Tax reform drastically limited who can claim the casualty-loss tax deduction for personal losses.

Now, only taxpayers whose personal losses occur in a federally declared disaster area may be eligible to claim a casualty-loss tax deduction. So the president must declare the region a disaster area in order for losses in that area to be deductible.

But depending on how the next few games go, Knoxville may be declared a disaster area.
