Did the Penn State and Nebraska games impress you?

It seems to me like it comes down to our ability to protect Nico. When we have, he's looked pretty good and we've won. But when we've given up 4 or more sacks, he's looks bad and we've lost.
Barely losing to the #1 team in the country did. In fact they probably should have won that game.

Didn’t say every. I said Indiana, Clemson, OSU, PSU, SMU.

We probably lose to GA, Oregon, TX.
But we haven’t beaten a single team with a winning record by 10 or more. We have failed to beat teams without a winning record by 10.

Gambling lines have us as close to double digit dogs against Ohio State, and yet you feel certain would beat them by double digits? If we play them, you should bet Tennessee -9.5, that would payoff big.

Good. I want to be the dog. I want our guys to come out with a massive chip on their shoulder. I want them to be some kind of exponentially pi$$3d off.

Sounds like an Ohio State fan to me. It’s cold. Southern teams can’t play in the cold up here in the north. But yet it was 23 in Columbus last night, and 25 in Knoxville. Florida had a freeze warning last night. So, we are going to lose, because it’s cold in Columbus? Heck Ryan Day blamed the missed field goal because it was windy? I’ve heard OState fans say they lost, because of sunny, snow, cold and sunshine. Now, they lost because it was windy. Ok! 😂
From what I've heard, Josh Heupel runs practices early in the morning and it's been below freezing most mornings the past couple of weeks here. Plus Heupel is from South Dakota, where it gets way colder than Ohio. Also, it's 2024. They'll have heaters on the sidelines and cold weather gear. Cold weather is not an excuse anymore

Stop acting like the SEC teams cannot play football in the cold.

I would think cold is much easier than the hot humidity of August and September in the south.

The only weather factor is SNOW or ICE and no team generally has experience is slip sliding around - it is like teams playing in a downpour of rain. No one practices that,

You’d better believe I’ll be betting Ohio State to cover. If we’re going to get our butts kicked I’m at least going to cash in on it. If we somehow pull off a miracle I’ll be even happier. Win-win scenario.

Not saying I disagree with the teams up Norths premise of perhaps it's a cold game. Some here in east Tennessee will say the temperature is negligible. That may be true but over the course of the next 3 weeks we don't know anything. It could be a blizzard and that really makes it ground game and both teams have Adequate backs. Ours is more of the workhorse and theirs a tad more elusive. Sampson propensity to put ball on turf when precipitation on the ball definitely is a concern.

My point though is we can say them practicing in their relative climate isn't and advantage as while temperatures may be close today. Over the course of 3 weeks they may stay cold and we might return to cold mornings and mild days. No one knows we are in unchartered waters. To that point we can't point to individuals where they played high school ball either. Nico being from California definitely isn't going to have much experience in really cold weather and in fact most state championships of players on either roster would typically be done by this next week or two so most players are done by mid November in high school anywhere.

Why would I listen to what a betting site says? The VOLS will be playing Penn State, not Ohio St.

Disagree. They are as talented as anyone, plus the cold weather will NOT help us. Just like we struggle with Fla no matter the record, the same goes for Ohio St vs Michigan. This is not a favorable matchup for us, not at Ohio St. If it was in Knoxville, absolutely. I think you forget our struggles on the road. We couldn't even beat sorry ass Arkansas at their little stadium. Let's hope GA and Penn St gets blown out.
I think we are starting to fix a lot of the road game issues. Obviously Vandy doesn’t count, but the Georgia game we came out ready. Nico didn’t have too many issues with the noise. We just had trouble finishing drives. If he plays like he did against Vandy, Georgia, and Kentucky and our O-Line keeps him clean for the most part, we have a great chance to win. I think a lot of the issues on the road were due to our tempo. If we didn’t make plays to start the game to quiet the crowd down a little bit then our tempo would slow down. Which would just give the crowd time and a reason to start going crazy. If we start getting 5-6 yards on 1st, I think that’s the ticket to really dominate on the road. But honestly, even in the Georgia game I think we were like 5 for 5 on 3rd downs to start the game I believe. Nico is really starting to settle in and coaches are running out of throwing every defensive alignment imaginable to confuse him. That just comes with experience.

The cold! The cold, oh no! Get the bread and milk! 🥶

If this game turns into a rock fight by virtue of it being cold, advantage Tennessee. State just tried to play that kind of game against a vastly inferior team and faceplanted. We have a better run game. We are healthier on the offensive line. The defensive lines are probably pretty close to even, but we’ve played comparable d-lines to theirs; they haven’t seen anything like ours yet. Their biggest advantage is their receiving corps, which outclasses anything we’ve faced this year by a decent margin. 50 degrees at kickoff would be a gift for Ohio State, but I’d still like our chances because Nico is progressing while Howard is regressing.

Going to be a whale of a game regardless, if it happens.

I think we go into Columbus and hand the Buckeyes their 2nd straight loss, probably get their coach canned in the process since he has lost 4 straight to rival Michigan, and his Offensive Coordinator was hired to stand behind Day with his dagger out from the start like Brutus...
I agree, Give our coaches three weeks to prepare for a game and it's money time. Think the last couple bowl game have proved that.

Another great point. We have been dominant in our bowlgames. Dominant. Never in question, dominant. I like being the underdog too.

GO VOLS. BELIEVE 2024

If we played them at home I could see us winning buy double digits. Nico seems to be on to something finally, and Ohio state is overrated. They just lost at home to a really bad michigan team. Their QB may also be hurt.

The facts are the facts. Teams play better normally in climates they are acclimated to. People function better in temps their body is used to. See it through orange glasses all you want but it is what it is. Just because it’s cold here in Tn right now doesn’t mean Tn is used to playing in those conditions.
Truth.
To prepare for the cold, Vols are now practicing from 6am-9am instead of their usual 8am-11am.
They also are using big wind producing fans on the sidelines instead of heaters.
He has also told them to dress down to as little as possible at practice with no long sleeves, gloves, or heavy socks.

This is only rumor, but apparently Bru (the teams practical joker) came out of the locker room wearing no shirt or pants.
Just a jockstrap, shoulder pads, and cleats.
He said …”Coach, I’m ready for wherever they send us”.
