I just want to say you absolutely cannot call yourself a Tennessee Vol fan if you bet against the Vols. No way.

My dad and I sat in section T and there were 2-3, 40-something year old guys there wearing Vols shirts and hats. After listening to their comments and seeing their *discreet* high fives after Oregon's second touchdown I had determined they bet against the Vols. It occurred to me at this point to take the guy's hat and glasses off, throw them down the bleachers and push him to the ground. But I didn't feel the urge to get arrested and/or sued so I kept my cool. Same guy was upset with Oregon's fourth TD because it "killed his spread."

I just want to say piss on you if you call yourself a true Vols fan and bet against them. No real Tennessee fan would do that in my book.

Not just in your book. If you bet against the Vols your not a Vol fan...period. All of this "in my opinion" and "in my book" and "my 2 cents" drives me nuts. If you believe something to be true, take a strong stand. When your wrong, take responsibility and admit it.

Somebody takes the Vols -40 this weekend, you can bet I'm taking for all they'll give me. I'll still root hard for the Vols, but easy money is easy money.

I was just taking precautions for any self-righteous tool on here who says "I'll bet against whoever I want!"

I'm not a bettor, but I'm not getting how the guy betting against the Vols would be upset with Oregon's fourth TD because it "killed his spread". Maybe it was an over/under thing or something.

What if you bet just a little money against them every game? It makes the losses more bearable, right?

that makes them a gambler, not a fan in my book. Can't be both.

You should have and then said it was a passing Oregon fan. A real Vols fan would have.

After 4million posts, you finally said something that makes sense. Keep taking your Geritol and for god's sake invest in glaxosmithkline!

Oh I know. But your right. We have to remember the goofballs that make statements like that on this site are still in the extreme minority. Although, sometimes they are the loudest.

you are so much of a fan that one loss would send you into a downward death spiral of pain and despair. so the only consolation you can get out of losing, is that at least you made some money on it. Otherwise, you would paint your naked body orange and jump off the henley street bridge.

can you not beat this lame ass tripe? Why waste the time if you're just going to fizzle like a cheap Black Cat. It's your decision, but voluntary lame assedness is avoidable.

Funny, i'm watching a episode of the Simpsons where Homer bet the farm against Lisa winning a spelling bee.

I disagree with you guys betting makes the blow out losses more tolerable....I would rather win the game lose money but easy money is easy money. Before I would get so upset I once almost broke my tv with a baseball bat....its calmed me down it really has....

That's despicable. Everyone knows not to bet against your team. I don't care how sure of a bet it is. There were a ton of other games that day, choose a different team to bet on.

Is it just me or is there a post on every thread here on VN that describes what real Vol fan would or wouldn't do? Why do we need so much guidance from other people on rooting for our favorite team? Do these rules apply to all teams or just Tennessee fans?

If you don't know what a true fan would do, you aren't one.

I'm pretty sure I'm not one, FWIW, but nobody will tell me for sure.

i think there's a slight difference being made between rooting for and betting against

I would have enjoyed the game much more if I'd have laid a dime or two on Oregon. I am a bit envious of the people being derided.
