Better Comeback?

also the 2006 Game at athens. Not that it was a miracle but the the way we turned a 17 Point late first half deficit into an 18 Pt victory was awesome. The way the dawgs came into knoxville terrified the next yr was also classic. we crushed them to the tune of 72-9 in just over four consecutive quaters of football.

I'll always remember that game because I spent the entire 1st quarter wondering why people kept turning around looking at me. Then I heard a booming voice behind me and realized Bruce Pearl was directly behind me.

The ND game was awesome but for what it meant at the time I'll have to say, in my opinion, the greatest comeback happened in 1998 against Arkansas..That game had it all...Just in the last minute and a half of that game your emotions were on a roller coaster...You go from utter disappointment to sheer ecstasy..The Arkansas game and the ND game are the only two times that I got so emotional that I shed any tears and that includes the National Championship game win....Remember, the Vols were down 21-3 against the Hogs...I'd say that constitutes a comeback win...
The 28-27 win over Alabama was big as well and I was at that game....

Arkansas was no doubt a big come-from-behind victory, one pitting two undefeated, top ten teams against each other. But Notre Dame was on the road and it was the GREATEST DEFICIT FROM WHICH ANY VISITOR HAS EVER EMERGED TO DEFEAT THE IRISH. We were trailing 31-7, about to go down 34-7, prior to Floyd Miley's touchdown return on the blocked field goal just before the end of the first half. Up to that point, ND looked like the most dominating offensive team to ever take the field against UT. The scond half was all ours.

This is a very important topic for the upcoming season! Most games being referenced here are not in championship seasons, but the sensational thrill of the upset or the comeback will present itself every other weekend this year. Sure, we may go 6-6 this year, but if one of those 6 wins is a monster upset against UF or Bama, or an overtime thriller against Oregon to start 2-0... no Vol fan should be pessimistic about 2010, period.

That being said, I've cried after one football game in my life - the ND game in 1990 (i was a kid). The 1991 game in South Bend is one of the greatest moments in Tennessee sports history on so many levels.

Miracle at South Bend. I was there on the front row on that crisp, sunny day. The absolute elation for Vol fans after that victory ranks high. So many future NFLers in that game.

ND game. Hentrich got a fg blocked and Floyd Miley ran it back, Dale Carter intercepted a Mirer pass, and Aaron Hayden caught a screen pass and took it the distance for the winner. We should have won both those games in the pair buy Kelly didnt get enough air under a pass that would have won it and it got intercepted (actually a great play).

That Notre Dame game wins the debate hands down IMO. I'm ashamed to admit that I had given up when it was really bleak in the first half. I went out for a little while, but thankfully made it back for the last few minutes. Thank you, Floyd Miley!

1. Miracle at South Bend - Had to work, retail in a liquor store in Jackson, TN. Listened to John Ward on the Radio... Very little work actually got done after the blocked field goal just before the half!

2. 1998 - Arkansas - I never bet on UT, because I always lose. I had a co-worker from upstate NY. He bet half the office Syracuse would beat Tennessee at the beginning of the year including myself. He lost over $800.00 and I knew it was going to be a special year. I sat in shock watching my dreams go down the tubes when AR's QB laid a gift on the ground!

'05 LSU just does not stick in my memory like the others above;

Great Thread, Can't wait till fall!!!

I was in college during the Miracle at South Bend. I've had season tickets since 1993 and I've never seen anything like it. I was home at my parents with a buddy drinking beer (they were out of town). He went to Vandy and fell asleep after the first half saying "ya'll ain't got a prayer..." When he woke up all the beer was gone and I was bouncing on the couch yelling "who's yer daddy now Lou!"

I was at the 1998 AR game and while a thrilling game.....it wasn't close as far as a comeback goes.

The LSU game doesn't merit mention really with these two IMO.

An argument can be made for the Virginia bowl game......it was like two different teams.

Southbend. . . I didn't see the game as I was otherwise occupied at Ranger School. . .however, my mom sent me the newspaper clippings in the mail. That was such a great feeling I think I passed a patrol that day!
