Best / Worst Announcers

My favorite is Brad Nessler... Maybe partial from playing too much ncaa on playstation growing up but he is #1 in my book.

I loved Kirk and Corso from the older NCAAs...I always thought Madden did a better job though.

Lee: "Beep, Beep, Beep"
Herb: "Huh? Lee, what are you doing?"
Lee: "I'm telling everyone that this offense is going in reverse"

Madden was
Madden: "The quarterback dropped back, lobbed it up there, and boom! Touchdown"

Here's a good question:

Do you prefer two man booths or three man booths? I always preferred three man booths for football and baseball, but just two man booths in basketball and hockey.

In basketball, my favorite combo is Breen, Van Gundy, and Marc Jackson, so i gotta say 3 man for basketball. Actually i don't even know if it matters to me, i just like them.

Not a college guy but Chris collinsworth is one of my favorites.
Also, Greg McElroy has turned into one of the most knowledgeable in studio. He doesnt show any bias either IMO.

On a big scale, Jessie Palmer is quite good. Obligatory mention of Verne being terrible.

Cawood Ledford though in UK history. Current one, Tom Leach is quite good as well.

He was from the county beside where I'm from. His mom was in the nursing home where my mom worked, and she saw him quite a bit. Dad was talking about him today.

Can't believe no one has mentioned Sean McDonough....he did the 98 UT - UF game.......the kick is....NO GOOD! He is my fav play by play guy.
This guy gets it. McDonough is one of my favorites, really wish that he would stayed on as the CBS play-by-play man.

Main thing I look for in an announcer is neutrality, enthusiasm and knowing when to just shut the hell up. Too many announcers these days just talk constantly, my brother and I had to mute Pollack and Palmer last night because they were just yapping non-stop.

Play by play
Best: McDonough, Ron Franklin, Gus Johnson, Brad Nessler
Worst: Verne, Keith Jackson, Mark Jones

Analyst
Best: Gruden, Charles Davis, Todd Blackledge, Herbstreit
Worst: Danielson, Andre Ware, Pollack, Rod Gilmore

Don't really care for most sideline reporters, but I will say my favorite, and really one of the few that I like, is Tony Siragusa because he actually stands there and watches the game. It's almost like he is a second analyst with a set of eyes on the field. There is a plethora of ways that I can observe beautiful women, so I don't really care about looking at one while watching a game. Most of them just annoy me.

I am watching the Music City Bowl now and am being reminded how much I despise Andre Ware. Below are my thoughts on college football announcers. Would love to here people opinions

Studio
Favorite - Rece Davis
Least - Mark May

Play by Play
Favorite - Gus Johnson
Least - Mark Jones

Analyst
Favorite - Jesse Palmer or Gary Danielson
Least - Andre Ware

Sideline (obvious reasons)
Favorite - Samantha Ponder
Least - Holly Rowe

Studio for me has to be Rece Davis and Chris Fowler when he used to do Game day.

Play-by-Play, Tessitore is awesome, I used to like musburger until the whole Florida state coed comment even though he was right. Keith Jackson will always be a personal favorite.

Analyst, Herbstreit wins this one hands down.

Sideline, Samantha Ponder. All I can say is Christian Ponder is a lucky man.

There can be no opinion or arguement about this!!!!
Brent Mush burger is the worst EVER! I Wish he would go call USC AND ND radio games and leave the rest of the football world alone!!!!!

I totally agree....he has his nose so far up the Big 10 teams' arse, it ain't funny

Holly Rowe has definitely blown up over the years.

At least she sounds like a girl.

My fav is Nessler and Blackledge. I know everyone hates Danielson for obvious reasons but he's pretty good.

I think Dave Neal is vastly underrated. He should be promoted over some of the goofs calling the games.

I agree that Palmer is decent, but he just never shuts up!

And yes, Ware is terrible.

On a big scale, Jessie Palmer is quite good. Obligatory mention of Verne being terrible.

Cawood Ledford though in UK history. Current one, Tom Leach is quite good as well.

Cawood was about as good as they get. Tom Leach is as bad as Cawood was good.

BTW, John Ward considered Cawood Ledford one of his best friends.

I agree with you on Palmer. He has vastly improved.
Verne and Brent = Cannot listen!

Sean McDonough is probably the best right now in my opinion. Ron Franklin was probably my all time favorite.

There was a guy that did a lot of the SEC Network games last year that was really good. Forgot his name.

Jesse Palmer is my favorite color guy. Very fair and professional.

I honestly never really have had a problem with Dave Neal. I think he is a very fair announcer.

Vern was one of my favorites until he started his Tebow worship. That really got on my nerves.

this is just to easy....Gus Johnson. Every time the guy calls a game whether its basketball or football its a great game. It's a shame CBS wouldn't let him call the national championship game. RISE AND FIRE!!!!! COLD BLOODED!!!!!!!!

For me it is:

Play by Play -- John Ward ... if TV only , then Mike Patrick
Analyst -- Todd Blackledge
Sideline -- Kaylee Hartung
Studio -- Kirk Herbstreit

This is a good list. I like Maria Taylor & Holly Rowe. Not sure why people don't like her. Shes by far the most informed...Taylor would be 2nd

It is hard to follow a legend but Bob is definitely growing on me. I wish all Vol fans would give Bob a chance, he is definitely not as bad as some of you say. AND he is all Vol.

He's much better in basketball than football IMO

Jack Buck was the best in baseball.
Of course John Ward was the best I've heard in college football radio and I do like Herbstreet for football analyst .
Jim Nance is the most professional play by play I've heard along with Pat Summerall.
Having been involved with play by play radio at a point in my career I find it hard to "enjoy" the media teams without being critical.
