we have couple of great coaches at UT, but i was wonderin who u all thought was the best coach out of our 3-4 major sport coaches that we have now.

i think:
1. Summit (bc she literally brought women's bball to the mainstream and constantly has a top 5 team that can win it all every year.)

2. Pearl (it was close between pearl & fulmer, but after watching buzzball i thought there was never going to be hope for bball; but in the 2 yrs. after buzz i think that we have a chance winning a sec championship w/ buzz's players.)

3. Fulmer (now i feel bad for puttin fulmer down here, but it is a what have u done for me lately society and to tell the truth fulmer hasn't really done a lot with the talent he has on the hill.)

other coaches:
delmonico (idk enough ab him, but do know that he's made it to the cws twice.)

the track coach (idk enough ab him either, but i think he's won a national title.)

so who do u all think is the best coach that we have?

Pearl has certainly resurrected a program, but he hasn't won anything yet. He has brought a different style of basketball to the SEC and has disguised our matchup difficulties, but it is not as though he needed to do much to make himself look like a genius after Buzz.

Fulmer has a National Championship and several SEC Titles. He has also proved that he is a great recruiter, while Bruce has not proved anything by just one class. Coaching might be a what have you done for me lately business, but the measurement of a great coach is not, when's the last time you won a title. It is how many titles have you won, what is your winning percentage, and how have you won.

Fulmer, despite his recent struggles, has proven that he too can build a program and make it successful, and more importantly, keep it successful (lately, moderately successful). Pearl has much more to prove before he is anywhere near the stratosphere that Phil is in.

Summitt has to be given credit, but remember that women's basketball was not exactly competitive when she broke into the game. She has not had as much competition as either of the two men's coaches. It can be argued that today, when more programs are getting focused, she has under performed.

I did not realize that two titles constituted several.

It's still something. Especially when you consider it was with a team that went 14-17 the year before and the National Champions came out of the SEC East.

Winning the East only gives you seeding and UT did not win either title. I think BP is a great coach and will win one soon but he still does not have a title on his UT resume.

You also must qualify the 14-17 record as belonging to Buzz. I'm pretty sure I could have coached them to 10 wins that year. I may not have roomed with MJ but I did coach a team the the CBFO title in '94.

a coach has to win a national title (depends on how long on the job IMO) to be the best coach. With that said I'd rate them as follows.

1. Summitt
2. Weakleys
2. Pearl
4. Soccer Coach
5. Volleyball Coach
6. Hockey Coach

All of the above have done a super job IMO. In particular the Soccer and Volleyball coaches have taken programs without any tradition and from scratch and turned their teams into national powers. I haven't a clue how long our current hockey coach has been in place but they are ranked #1 in the southeast in ACHA with a record that is somewhere in the 22-3 area this season.

so, just to be sure I'm reading this correctly, you'd rank Fulmer 7th?

This is Coach Durrigan's second season. He has been a finalist for ACHA National Coach of the Year both seasons. (Still in the running of course this year)

So what was the scoop on those UT hockey sweaters? They available for sale???

Sorry, we don't have enough money to front to buy the jerseys to sell. Can't sell the game jerseys of course...at least until the end of the season.

All of the merchandise we have has been paid for in advance by player's parents...we earn whatever the markup is.

Anybody out there want to help sponsor a team going to nationals? We are coming up short at the moment.

I'm no expert on how that stuff works, but the jerseys look pretty cool and I'd probably buy one. Others would too I think. Might be a good way to solve the funding problem to some degree....

Upfront pay (sponsorship) for the ability to get one of the seniors jerseys. I'd be in!

Sorry, 2, but I'd rather you critcize my argument and not one detail of it. And no the SEC East doesn't count, where did it lead us? An early exit in both Tourneys and one to an SEC East school.

You just cannot put Pearl in front of Fulmer at this point, just because he is more popular doesn't make him a better coach. I would also have to argue that the SEC is much more competitive in football than basketball.

fulmer has had a longer tenure and overall better record, but as of this time i think that pearl is better than fulmer. i know that fulmer has 2 sec championships and a national title, but right now i would say that pearl is better.

pearl has done a whole lot more with far different talent than fulmer has done with top 5 signing classes.

How much do we have to front to get a run of the Hockey jerseys done?

Depends on how many is in a "run"...we got 50 for the team this season and they were about $80 each. We are trying to find a cheaper company though, and replica jerseys would be less than our gamers.

There is also the Power T/licensing issue with the school. We can use the Power T on our game jerseys, but can't sell anything with the Power T without paying licensing fees (since we aren't under the athletic department).
