When Georgia was founded, it had no western border. The Mississippi Territory was established between Louisiana and Georgia in 1809. It encompassed what became the states of Mississippi and Alabama. Given the role of the Mississippi River in transportation and commerce, Mississippi was the first state to develop and incorporate. Georgians like to say that the state of Alabama was founded by disgruntled agriculturalists, chafing at the laws being passed by a Georgia legislature increasingly dominated by attorneys.

Family trees of the residents are much simpler to draw? I think it’s a pretty horrible state, honestly. Seriously, one of the worst. Not going to say THE worst, because Mississippi and Arkansas also exist. But it’s awful.

I suppose that if you are on the market for a Ford Pinto or an AMC Gremlin then perhaps Alabama would be the place to start. Perhaps a nice double wide with a few bullet holes which could be repaired.

Hey now, I loved my 1974 Ford Pinto, especially with the extra feature of exploding gas tanks.

I forgot about Huntsville. My son and I had a couple of 3-day trips to Huntsville. Lots of places of interest in that area. Rocket Town is the crown jewel of AL.

They are expecting pain down there. The proposed federal budget cuts 25% from NASA's budget, including canceling the Space Launch System. 15,000 high paying AL jobs are only working on the SLS.
