Best tequila?

I found myself drinking tequila a few nights ago and found I liked it much more than when I was younger.

Kinda burned out on vodka and whiskey.

Any favorites out there I should try?

PS...

In before the Tila tequila jokes.

Drinking it straight up or mixing it? Makes a big difference.

So this thread inspired me to venture to the liquor store and I bought a few things to try.

Ok...

Here is my own personal ranking of just the Tequila's I purchased above.

1. Avion Anejo
2. El Mayor Anejo
3. Kah Anejo
4. Avion Silver
5. Avion Reposado

This was straight up sipping the tequila with no mixing.

I followed these particular steps to trying all of these:
5 Easy Tasting Steps To Help You Thoroughly Enjoy Gourmet Tequila - Shoppers Vineyard

The Avion Reposado when put up against the rest was by far the most bitter tequila. After testing the 3 anejo's listed I went back and tried the Reposado and was practically floored. I'm completely underwhelmed by the Kah, especially given that it was the most expensive of all the tequila's I bought tonight. Something about it grouped with the other anejo's had it tasting far more "alcoholly" rather than smooth or fruity.
The Avion Anejo was easily the smoothest with the El Mayor Anejo coming in fairly close to it. The El Mayor had a bolder slightly sweeter flavor to it but not as smooth of a finish.

The Avion Silver could easily be drunk straight but hands down this would also be a perfect mixing tequila. I wouldn't even waste my money on the Reposado.

I've never been a fan of Patron Silver, but when I first tried Patron Anejo I had some sort of an Tequila awakening. I absolutely loved the woodier, smoother flavor that you get in Anejo's.

I've heard only good things about Avion but I've yet to try it. Maestro Dobel also got very good ratings along with Chinaco Anejo and Herradura anejo.

Maestro Dobel is delicious. About $50, but worth every penny.

Chinaco and Herradura are both quality but fall way short of Dobel.

Patron is horse piss imo. Same as Grey Goose Vodka, massive amounts of marketing because the quality can't sell itself.

Trago Silver and Avion Silver are my preferred two. Patron has some good stuff as well but I use it more for mixing than anything else.

I've heard AsomBroso Silver is a must try but I can't get over the bottle looking like a giant penis...

Cabo Wabo Tequila (Reposado)

Winner of several world gold medals. And by far the best tequila going.

Cabo Wabo Tequila | Ultra Premium Tequila

Really? Cabo Wabo is good, I agree. It's on par with Don Julio, Don Eduardo, etc. It's not as good as Dobel. It's not in the same ballpark as Clase Azul.

It's quite a stretch to say "by far the best tequila going." Imo of course.

I almost bought a bottle of Maestro Dobel the night I got the other Tequila's. I needed my buck to go further that night though. I might splurge the $40+ sometime very soon and try it.

Fair warning: It'll make a current tequila you enjoy less enjoyable.

I was sipping don Don Julio a few nights back wishing I had more Dobel.

If you drink enough tequila to get to the worm and eat it, the brand doesn't really matter. I haven't drank any in 35 years.
